Katerina Matysova led the 2018 Nebraska women's tennis team as one of two seniors and three team captains.Matysova displayed great experience and leadership both on and off the court during the 2017-18 season. The Erding, Germany native only competed in one fall invitational tournament, prioritizing her final spring season. During the spring, she recorded 16 singles wins and a 4-3 record in Big Ten competition. She also had a successful senior season in the doubles category. Alongside Vasanti Shinde, Matysova displayed a dominant run at the No. 3 doubles position, posting a 20-win season that included seven wins in Big Ten play.
Matysova graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in May of 2017 and competed for the Huskers while pursuing a master's degree in educational psychology. She captured academic All-Big Ten honors for the fourth time in 2018.
2016-17: Junior
Matysova paced the competitive Huskers with a team-best 21-3 record. Matysova did not drop a match all spring, with a perfect spring record of 13-0, and went a perfect 3-0 in conference play. She played out of No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 for the Huskers and had a team-best 13-match winning streak.In doubles play, Matysova finished 11-3, with a perfect 5-0 record in the spring and played with five different partners. Her season was cut short by injury late in the spring.
Off the tennis court, she was named academic All-Big Ten and was a member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2015-16: Sophomore
Matysova competed out of the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the Nebraska singles lineup as a sophomore in the spring of 2016. She closed her second full season on the court with a 14-7 singles mark, which including a 6-4 Big Ten record. In doubles action, she added a 9-10 overall record that included a 2-8 mark against Big Ten foes.Matysova spent a majority of her time on the doubles court with senior Mackenna Maddox-Herr, posting an 8-8 spring record. Matysova added a victory paired with freshman Sydney Harlow, while going 0-2 alongside freshman Paula Del Cueto Dastillo.
Off the court, Matysova earned academic All-Big Ten honors and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for the second straight season. She also claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2015-16. She was a member of the 2016 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2014-15: Redshirt Freshman
Matysova broke into the Husker lineup in her first full season on the court as a Husker, playing out of the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles spots while teaming up with Mackenna Maddox to fill the No. 3 doubles spot.After redshirting her freshman season due to an injury, Matysova bounced back to earn a 12-10 overall singles mark, going 3-8 in Big Ten action. Playing eight matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, she went 4-4 and 6-2 at those spots, respectively.
Matysova paired up with Maddox for the entire spring campaign where the Husker duo grabbed an 8-14 overall mark, going 2-9 in Big Ten play.
Off the court, Matysova was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2015.
2013-14: Redshirt
Matysova joined the Huskers in 2014 as one of six new additions to the squad. She played some matches in the fall campaign earning a 2-4 singles record and 1-4 doubles before falling to an injury in the fall that kept her from playing during the spring. Due to this, Matysova earned a medical redshirt for the season.Matysova earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2013-14 to help the Huskers earn their fourth consecutive Herman Award for the highest cumulative team GPA of all Nebraska women’s sports.
Before Nebraska
Matysova won a U21 Regional Championship at the age of 13 going on to reach her highest U16 ranking of No. 11 at the age of 14. In January 2011, Matysova won an ITF tournament in Poland. Matysova achieved her highest national ranking at No. 97 in 2011-12. Matysova attained her highest ITF ranking in 2011 at No. 384.Personal
The daughter of Jareslav and Romana Matysova, Katerina was born on April 17,1995 and has a younger sister, Lucie, 16. Katerina majored in psychology at Nebraska and earned her bachelor’s degree in May of 2017. She was a four-time academic All-Big Ten selection. She was a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2015, 2016, 2018). The native of Erding, Germany is a 10-time selection to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She participated in the Nebraska Life Skills Service Trip Abroad to Bocas del Toro, Panama in May of 2018.Why Matysova Chose Nebraska
