2015-16: Sophmore
Spurti Shivalingaiah did not compete in the 2015-16 women's tennis season due to an injury.
2014-15: Redshirt Freshman
Spurti Shivalingaiah made instant impacts in her second season as a Husker after redshirting her inaugural campaign.
Playing the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, Shivalingaiah started the spring season on a high note with a remarkable 10-match winning streak. She gathered an 11-2 singles mark before resting nine-straight matches due to a wrist injury.
Shivalingaiah teamed up with Maggy Lehmicke to earn a 1-3 doubles mark at the No. 2 spot before partnering up with Lisa Andersson to win a pair of matches in Feb. She played one match with Katerina Matysova to earn a 6-1 win, rounding out Shivalingaiah’s doubles action for the season.
2013-14: Redshirt
Shivalingaiah joined the Huskers in January for the spring semester and earned a redshirt, injuring herself before the spring season and seeing no action in fall or spring play.
Shivalingaiah earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in her first semester, and helped the Huskers capture the Herman Award for the fourth straight year, which honors the team with the highest GPA of all Nebraska women's sports.
Before Nebraska
Shivalingaiah was a decorated junior player. The talented recruit won the ITF U18 Junior World Ranking singles and doubles Championship at Colombo and was a finalist in the ITF U18 Junior World Ranking Singles Championship at Bahrain and Colombo. Shivalingaiah won the ITF U18 Junior Doubles Championship at Guwahati and Chennai while also becoming a finalist in the ITF U18 Juniors Doubles Championships in Bahrain, Jordan, Colombo and Delhi. Shivalingaiah reached a ranking of 232 in the ITF U18 Junior World Ranking as well as ranked No. 1,110 in the International WTA Women’s ranking. Shivalingaiah was honored and presented with the Karnataka Olympic Association Award as the “Best Sports Person - Tennis” by the Governor of Karnataka on Nov. 22, 2012.
Personal
A native of Bangalore, India, Shivalingaiah is the daughter of Shivalingaiah Annaiah and Bhavani Reddy, born on July 12, 1995. Shivalingaiah has one sister, Shreya. Spurti is majoring in business administration at Nebraska and claimed academic All-Big Ten honors in 2015. She is a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
