Valentini's Coaching Philosophy
"We believe in the power of team. We can be better as a team than as a collection of individuals. We want our student-athletes to focus on things which they have control over. These things include giving full effort, maintaining a positive attitude and displaying the highest of sportsmanship standards."
About Valentini
Tommy Valentini enters his second year as assistant coach for the NU women’s tennis team. He assists with practice and on-court coaching, recruiting and team travel for the Huskers.
As a collegiate competitor at Gustavus Adolphus College, Valentini led his team to three consecutive top-four NCAA Division III finishes. In 2001, he was named the Central Regional and MIAC Arthur Ashe award winner for outstanding accomplishments in athletics, academics, sportsmanship and humanitarian concerns.
Valentini also was a two-time Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-American, earning second-team honors in 2001 and first-team accolades in 2002.Valentini was the Hollingsworth Key recipient, which is awarded to the Gustavus Adolphus student-athlete with the highest GPA over a four-year period.
A native of Duluth, Minn., Valentini received his bachelor’s degree in religion and history from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2002.
