2015 • Senior Season
One of Nebraska’s most decorated gymnasts, Jessie DeZiel (pronounced Duh-ZEEL) closed out her outstanding career as a nine-time All-American after adding two honors to her list at the 2015 NCAA Championships. DeZiel captured second-team accolades on vault, posting a 9.90 for fifth place in the second semifinal. The Rogers, Minn., native grabbed her first career first-team All-America awards in the all-around, where she tied for sixth in the nation with a 39.425.

DeZiel provided NU consistent all-around performances week in and week out, only missing one meet in the whole season. She took home 13 individual event title with four in the all-around to boost her total to 61 career titles. DeZiel also matched or set career highs in three out of the four events, hitting 48 for 48 routines throughout the season.

DeZiel continued to show her strength into the postseason on vault and in the all-around. At the 2015 Ames Regional, she was crowned the regional vault champion for the third straight year, earning a 9.95 for her stuck landing. She also rolled to a spectacular 9.90 at the NCAA Championships on vault, tying for fifth on the event. DeZiel also delivered a solid all-around performance at the championships after finishing sixth overall, her best finish of her career at the national meet.

Over the course of the season, DeZiel picked up numerous honors and awards to top off her successful Husker career. The Rogers, Minn., native earned her name on the initial ballot for the AAI Award, which honors the best female gymnast in the country. She notched first-team All-Big Ten accolades for her solid performances throughout the season, while also being named Nebraska’s female student athlete of the year.

2014 • Junior Season 
DeZiel had an outstanding junior campaign for the Huskers, continuing the dominance and consistency she displayed in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The seven-time All-American defended her status as one of the nation’s best all-around competitors by capturing 10 event titles, including two in the all-around and five on vault.

She capped her season at the 2014 NCAA Championships by putting together a stellar performance to place eighth overall in the all-around competition (39.50). DeZiel was also an integral part of the Huskers’ historic beam lineup, where she posted a 9.90 to earn first-team All-America status and fueled the Big Red to its 11th Super Six appearance.

DeZiel took home her second consecutive regional vault title with a score of 9.95, while also placing third in the all-around to help the Huskers reach the NCAA Championships. She captured NACGC/W second-team All-America honors on vault for her efforts during the regular season as she tallied her career-high 9.975 score twice.

At the conference level, DeZiel claimed first-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after winning the Masters Classic all-around crown (39.525). At the Big Ten Championships, DeZiel tied for second on bars with a 9.90 and third on vault hitting a 9.925 score. She collected All-Big Ten Championship team honors on both events. 

2013 • Sophomore Season
Jessie DeZiel, notched a 12th-place finish overall at the 2013 NCAA Championships to become a second-team All-American. She also posted a 9.875 on beam in the first session of the championship meet to earn second-team All-America honors on the event. Her two honors in 2013 bring her career tally to five through two season at NU.

DeZiel earned or shared Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors twice this season, giving her 14 career weekly honors overall. She was a first-team All-Big Ten pick for the second year in a row and snagged her first career Academic All-Big Ten honor during the winter season. Prior to NCAA competition, DeZiel earned NACGC/W first-team All-America honors on vault and in the all-around.

DeZiel was the 2013 Big Ten Runner-Up in the all-around (39.625), tying for second place on floor (9.95) and first on vault (9.95). She took home three All-Big Ten Championship Team honors at the meet on vault, floor and in the all-around while boosting the Big Red to their third straight conference title. She also competed as one of NU’s three all-arounders at the NCAA Morgantown Regional, posting a 39.200 and winning an ensuing tiebreaker to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual competitor.

2012 • Freshman Season
In one of the most impressive freshman campaigns in school history, DeZiel captured three All-America honors and was the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional all-around champion to help lead the Huskers. DeZiel capped off her year at the NCAA Championships in Duluth, Ga., where she became a first-team All-American on the floor and all-around, while earning second-team All-America honors on vault. DeZiel advanced to the NCAA event finals on floor, scoring a 9.90 to finish in sixth. The Rogers, Minn., native posted a 39.425 in the NCAA Semifinals to finish in 11th place overall.

DeZiel, who didn't miss a routine the entire season, was a dominant force within the Big Ten Conference, winning a league-high 11 Big Ten individual weekly awards and taking home the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year award. At the Big Ten Conference meet, DeZiel was the Big Ten Floor Champion after a 9.90 on the event and finished in second in the all-around with a 39.525 to earn spot on the All-Big Ten Championship team on each event. At regionals, DeZiel was the all-around, vault and floor champion.

DeZiel scored at least a 39.225 in the all-around in each meet during 2012 and posted a season-high 39.60 in her home state of Minnesota against the Gophers on Feb. 18. She was named the 2012 Nebraska Newcomer of the Year and finished with a team-high 16 individual titles throughout the season and seven all-around crowns.

Before Nebraska
DeZiel competed for Mike Hunger at Twin City Twisters in Champlin, Minn. DeZiel, an elite level gymnast, comes to Nebraska after representing the United States at the 2011 Pan American Games where she helped the U.S. team capture gold, and posted the team's highest scores on vault (15.125), beam (13.275) and floor exercise (13.150), with her vault score being the highest in the entire competition. DeZiel is also a two-time Junior Olympic all-around champion (2010, 2011), and a five-time JO qualifier. The Rogers, Minn., native finished 17th at the Visa Nationals in 2011.

Personal
DeZiel was born on August 12, 1993, in Crystal, Minn. She is the daughter of Craig and Jean DeZiel and has one sister, Brittany. She was an honor roll student at Spectrum High School for four years. DeZiel was a nutrition, exercise and health sciences major at Nebraska and graduated in May of 2016. She was a seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
