Kathy Ligon was a two-year Husker gymnast in 1998 amd 1999. After a series of injuries, Ligon ended her gymnastics career following her sophomore season.

As a sophomore: Ligon did not see any action for the Huskers during her sophomore season, hindered by a series of injuries that put an early end to her gymnastics career.

As a freshman: Ligon provided depth on vault and floor exercise during her freshman season. She scored a career-high 9.075 on the vault at the Maui Invitational, and she also competed in exhibitions on floor and vault throughout the season.

Prior: A Level 10 gymnast, Ligon competed at the Cypress Academy og Gymnastics under coaches Deana Parish and Luis Garcia. She placed seventh on the uneven bars at the 1997 Junior Olympic Nationals and finished first in the all-around at the 1996 regional. Kathy finished second in the all-around at the 1997 regional meet and has a career-high 9.8 on the uneven bars. She posted career-best scores of 9.5 or better in each of the four events, including a 9.65 on the floor exercise and a 9.575 on the balance beam. Ligon was a club teammate of former Husker Amie Dillman. Kathy was also one of three native Texans on the 1999 roster, joining Dillman (Katy) and Laura Ohlendorf (Austin).

Personal: The daughter of Gary and Belinda Ligon, Kathy was born on Jan. 6, 1979 in Victoria, Texas. She was a 1997 graduate of Cy-Fair High School, and has one younger sister named Wendy. She majored in pre-physical therapy and chose Nebraska over Oregon State, Auburn, Michigan State and Utah.
