Shelly Bartlett was a letterwinner for the Huskers from 1994-1997. She earned three All-America awards during her time with Nebraska and was the 1997 Nebraska Female Student-Athlete of the Year.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

As a senior: A four-year letterwinner, Shelly Bartlett was one of 10 finalists for the 1997 NCAA Woman-of-the-Year award, an honor which recognizes academics, athletics and community service.

During her senior season, Bartlett set school records in the all-around (39.575), on beam (9.925) and bars (9.95) in helping the Huskers reach the Super Six Finals for the first time in school history. At the NCAA Championships, Bartlett became the first Nebraska women’s gymnast to win three All-American certificates in the same season when she earned first-team honors on the uneven bars and second-team accolades on vault and in the all-around. At the Big 12 Championships, she took first-place in the all-around with her school record mark, won the balance beam (9.925) and shared the uneven bars with freshman Heather Brink (9.925) to help NU win the inaugural Big 12 title. She took first on vault (9.90) and bars (9.875) at the Midwest Regional.

A secondary education/social science major, Bartlett maintained a 3.845 grade point average and was named to the NAGCC Scholastic team in 1997. She finished her career by being named the Nebraska Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

As a junior: One of two Huskers to compete in every event in 1996, Bartlett tied the school record in the all-around (39.375) at the Midwest Regionals. She was a consistent performer for NU, as she set career-best marks on vault (9.80), bars (9.90) and floor (9.925). She won four all-around titles and is the NU record holder on beam with a mark of 9.90. Bartlett was awarded Big Eight Gymnast-of-the-Month honors for January. She finished second in the all-around at the Midwest Regional with a school-record tying 39.375 score. Bartlett tied for 21st place in the all-around at the NCAA Championships (38.875) and tied for 49th on beam (9.65). She was named to the academic All-Big Eight team for the third year. 

As a sophomore: One of NU’s most consistent performers, Bartlett was an all-around competitor in every meet of her sophomore campaign. She was the Big Eight Gymnast-of-the-Month for January and won 10 individual titles, including two all-around titles against Utah State and North Carolina State. She set four personal bests with marks of 9.80 (V), 9.825 (UB), 9.875 (FX) and 39.20 (AA). Bartlett repeated as a member of the All-Big Eight Team, with a third-place finish on the balance beam (9.75). She was one of the highest finishers at the Midwest Regional, including a 12th-place tie in the all-around with a score of 38.775 and a tie for 15th on vault with a 9.775 mark. Her all-around score of 39.20 ranked second on the NU all time all-around list. She was named to the Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight Honor Roll for the second consecutive year and earned first-team academic All-Big Eight honors.

As a freshman: Bartlett exploded at the college level and established herself among the greats in Nebraska gymnastics history. She was on of only three Huskers to compete in the all-around at every meet. Bartlett earned a school-record 9.90 on beam at the Big Eight Championships. She recorded season bests of 9.675 on vault, 9.65 on bars, 9.75 on floor and 38.325 in the all-around. She received her first All-Big Eight honor on the balance beam and was named to the Big Eight Academic Honor Roll.

Prior: A five-time Junior Olympic competitor, Bartlett began her career at the Northwest Gymnastics Academy in Spokane, Wash., under the direction of Mike and Nancy Armstrong. She earned 10th place on floor and tied for 13th on vault at the 1993 Junior Olympic Nationals. She posted personal-best scores of 9.70 on vault, 9.85 on bars and 38.10 in the all-around.

Personal: Shelly Bartlett was born on May 19, 1975, in Missoula, Mont. She has two sisters, Maureen and Anne, and one brother, Robert. She is the daughter of Bob and Nina Bartlett and boasts a 3.824 cumulative grade point average in pre-education.
