Sabrina Long returned to compete for the Huskers in a reserve role after rehabilitating two shoulder surgeries in an 18-month span. She made her 2008 debut at Stanford on March 7, scoring a 9.525 on vault and a season-high 9.60 on beam. Long added a season-high 9.60 on vault at Penn State, saving NU two-tenthson its team event score at the quadrangular. Long contributed a 9.525 on vault at the Big 12 Championships.

 

2007 ? Sophomore Season

Long redshirted after being unable to compete for the Huskers in 2007 due to a torn labrum that reguired midseason surgery.

 

2006 ? Freshman Season

Long served as a three-event competitor for Nebraska in her inaugural season, earning time in the vault, beam and floor lineups throughout the year. She consistently scored between a 9.60 and 9.85 on vault, including a season-high 9.85 at Penn State and a 9.775 on floor at Oklahoma.

 

Long was utilized on all three events to begin her season at the Super Six Challenge, scoring a 9.60 on vault and a 9.625 on floor. In NU's first home meet against Michigan, Long contributed a 9.675 mark on vault and a 9.70 on floor, then topped her performances gainst MIssouri with scores of 9.725 and 9.75 on vault and floor respectively.

 

Upon traveling to her native state of Oklahoma for a conference dual with the Sooners, Long gave her finest floor performance of the year with a 9.775, as well as a 9.775 on vault. Just one week later at Penn State, she hit a career high on vault with a 9.85 for sixth place and added a 9.70 on floor, which was followed by a seventh-place-worthy 9.80 on vault in NU's home match-up with Iowa State.

 

As the Huskers traveled northward for the Alaska Triangular with Alaska-Anchorage and Seattle Pacific, Long contributed a 9.60 on vault from her usual leadoff position in the lineup. In Nebraska's final regular-season home meet, she added a pair of 9.75 scores on vault and floor to help transition NU into the postseason.

 

At the Big 12 Championships, Long again competed on three events for the first time since January, putting forth a career-best 9.675 on beam and a 9.625 on floor. The NCAA Southeast Regional in Athens, Ga., provided her the opportunity to supply marks of 9.675 on vault and 9.75 on floor, helping Nebraska to it's 17th NCAA Championships appearance.

 

At her first NCAA Championsihps, Long added a 9.50 on vault and a 9.25 on floor inthe afternoon preliminary session of the NCAA Championships, helping NU finish first on its opeing day of competition. She closed her inaugural campaign the next night with a vault score of 9.70, and the Huskers ended the year with a fifth-place national finish.

 

Before <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska

Long competed for coaches Kristi Krafft, Jean-Luc Cairon and Kerry Kayne at Krafft Academy of Gymnastics in Tulsa, Okla., the same club that produced Nebraska associate head coach Danna Durante. Long claimed the 2003 Level 10 Junior Olympic national vault crown, while also finishing second on bars. In 2004, she earned sixth on vault and fifth on beam.

 

In her final J.O. National Championships appearance in 2005, she placed sixth in the all-around and fourth on beam, while adding seventh-place honors on floor and taking ninth on vault and 16th on bars. On the regional level, Long was a three-time Region lll all-around champion and captured four Oklahoma state all-around titles. In addition, Long was a two-time U.S. Championships qualifier as a junior international elite competitor.

 

Long chose the Huskers over an offer from Washington.

 

Personal

Sabrina Long was born Nov. 18, 1986 in Claremore, Okla., and is the daughter of Deanna Nappo and Jesse Long. She has two brothers, Shane and Damien. A 2005 graduate of the American Academy of Homeschooling, Long is an elementary education major at Nebraska.
