Five-time All-American Misty Oxford was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskers from 1996-99.

 

1999 ? Senior Season<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Oxford earned a pair of All-America awards in her final campaign, taking second-team accolades on the floor and all-around. The Region III floor champion and Big 12 all-around co-champion with fellow Husker Heather Brink, Oxford earned all-conference recognition on floor and the all-around at the Big 12 Championships. In addition, she was honored as Big 12 Gymnast of the Week on March 16 following her performance against PennState, in which she won the all-around title with a career-high 39.375. Also a standout in the classroom, Oxford was named an NACGC Scholastic All-American for a second time, as well as first-team Academic All-Big 12 for the third consecutive year.

 

1998 ? Junior Season

Oxford competed in every meet and was ranked 18th nationally in the all-around (39.012) and 17th on floor (9.887). She won the conference floor title with a 9.90, placed second in the all-around (39.275) and was fourth on bars (9.90), earning All-Big 12 honors on all three events. Oxford won three all-around titles as a junior, including a share of one with teammate Heather Brink against Missouri (39.225) after fracturing her pinky two days before. For her strong performance against the Tigers, Oxford was awarded Big 12 Gymnast-of-the-Week honors. A first-team academic All-Big 12 selection, Oxford achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester.

 

1997 ? Sophomore Season

Oxford capped an incredible sophomore campaign by earning All-America honors on vault, beam and floor at the NCAA Championships. The only Husker to compete in two event finals, she finished 11th on vault (8.7625) and floor (9.10). In helping NU in the Super Six Finals, Oxford recorded a 9.775 on vault and a 9.725 on floor, and added preliminary scores of 9.90 vault, 9.85 on floor and 9.825 on beam.

 

At the Big 12 Championships, Oxford tallied a 9.90 on vault for a second-place finish and All-Big 12 honors. In addition, Oxford scored a career-best 9.90 on beam at SoutheastMissouriState.

 

1996 ? Freshman Season

Oxford earned Big Eight Newcomer of the Year honors, finishing second in the all-around at the Big Eight Championships with a score of 38.90. She set a season best on vault (9.90) to tie for second at the Sun Devil Classic and finished eighth in the all-around (38.975) at the Midwest Regional. Oxford also put up a season-high 9.725 on beam and tied for 19th on bars (9.775) at regionals.

 

Before Nebraska

Oxford competed for Coaches Rob Lloyd and Ericka Backus at NaydenovGymnasticsCenter in Vancouver, Wash.

 

Personal

The daughter of Carey and Donna Oxford and Rick and Janet Bran, Misty was born on Aug. 30, 1975. She has one brother, Darrin, and two sisters, Amy and Michelle. Oxford graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Nebraska in 2000.
