LeRon Williams joined the Nebraska track and field coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2019-20. Williams assists in coaching the men’s sprints, hurdles and relays, as well as the high jump.
Williams competed on the Nebraska track and field team from 2005-09. He was a second-team All-American during the indoor season of 2009 in the long jump. He still ranks 10th on the Nebraska top-10 list in the long jump during the indoor season for his leap of 25-6 1/4 (7.78m) in 2009. He is also still tied for 10th on the outdoor top-10 chart in the long jump for his mark of 25-5 1/2 (7.76m) in 2009.
After Nebraska, Williams was a volunteer assistant at Omaha Central High School during the 2009-10 school year. Williams moved to Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, in 2010 and coached at STETHS High School until 2011. At STETHS, Williams mentored athletes to a national title in the triple jump, second place in the high jump and a first-place finish in the long jump. While coaching, Williams also participated in professional competitions and trained with Warren Weir, Edino Steele and Usain Bolt. He returned to Nebraska in 2011 and was a volunteer assistant at Omaha Central until 2012.
Williams moved to Fremont, Neb., in 2012 and was a graduate assistant at Midland University until 2014. He coached the Warriors to five school records in the jumps before coaching at Austin Peay State from 2014-15. Williams moved to Detroit, Mich., in 2015 and was named the men's and women's cross country head coach and women's track and field assistant at Wayne State University until 2019. While at WSU, Williams helped two student-athletes achieve school records.
Williams graduated from Nebraska in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He earned a master’s degree in education and leadership from Midland University in 2014.
