2014 (Sophomore)
Zach Birkel participated in five meets for Nebraska during the 2014 indoor season… recorded a personal-best time of 7.03 in the 60-meter prelims at the season-opening Holiday Inn Invitational… posted a personal-best time of 21.95 in the 200 meters at the Frank Sevigne Invitational.
2013 (Freshman)
Birkel competed in three meets for the Huskers during the 2013 indoor season... posted a personal-best time of 7.13 in the 60 meters at the Holiday Inn Invitational... recorded a personal-best time of 22.36 in the 200 meters at the Mark Colligan Memorial...participated in five meets for NU in the 2013 outdoor campaign...notched a season-best time of 10.91 in the 100 meters at the Pre-Drake meet on April 24...gained another season-best mark of 22.16 for a ninth-place finish in the 200 meters at the Razorback Spring Invite on March 30...earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters.
2012 (Redshirt)
Birkel redshirted both the indoor and outdoor season in 2012... posted a season-best time of 22.56 in the 200 meters, competing as an unattached athlete at the Nebraska Tune-Up... competed unattached during the outdoor season... recorded a season-best time of 10.90 in the 100 meters and a personal-best 21.53 in the 200 meters at the Nebraska Invitational.
Before Nebraska (Pius X)
Birkel finished sixth in the 100-meter dash at the Nebraska state championships in 2011...also came in fifth in the 200-meter dash at the 2011 state championships...owns a personal record of 10.87 in the 100-meter dash... set a prep-best time of 22.22 in the 200-meter-dash...tallied a 4x100 team record of 43.9 his senior year at Pius X High School...Birkel also won the 100-meter dash at the All-City Track and Field Meet.
