2009 (Junior)

Lukas Hulett (pronounced HUE-let) earned four All-Big 12 honors in 2009 and set four personal bests... started the year with a victory in the 400 meters at the Conference Challenge (47.17)... broke his previous best of 46.77 the following week with a winning time of 46.75 at the adidas Classic... earned All-Big 12 honors for the third straight year in the 400 meters and the 4x400-meter relay at the Big 12 Indoor Championships... placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 46.83 and ran the anchor leg of the sixth-place relay team... set a new oversized best at the Cyclone Last Chance with a time of 46.58... ran at the NCAA Indoor Championship for the third consecutive year... placed 14th with a time of 47.44... opened the outdoor season with a sweep of the 200 (21.18) and 400 (46.87) meters at Arizona’s Jim Click Shootout... earned Big 12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his two wins in Tucson... ran a season best of 46.14 to win the Nebraska Quad... took fifth in the 400 meters (46.32) and ran the third leg of the third-place 4x100-meter relay (39.80) at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships... ended the year with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Midwest Regional (46.82).

 

2008 (Sophomore)

Hulett made Husker history during his sophomore campaign by becoming the first Husker on the men’s side to earn NCAA All-America honors in the 400 meters indoors and outdoors in the same season... was the first Husker to achieve the feat since 1993 when Shanelle Porter won the women’s indoor national title and finished fourth at the outdoor championships... started the indoor season in dominant fashion with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 47.00 to win the 400 meters at the Conference Challenge... finished fourth one week later at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational... came in third at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a time of 47.35  while also running the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay that placed fourth with a season-best time of 3:08.76... ran a then-personal-best 46.77 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Indoor Championships, posting the fifth-fastest time in the prelims and ranking third all-time at Nebraska indoors... finished seventh in the finals with a time of 47.22 to earn his second straight NCAA All-America honor in the indoor 400 meters... started the outdoor season with a win at the John Jacobs Invitational in the 400 (46.78)... posted the top time in the preliminaries at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 45.69A, the fourth-fastest time in Husker history outdoors... finished sixth in the 400 final (46.09A), ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay (40.21A) that finished fifth and the 4x400-meter relay (3:06.43A) that finished third at the conference meet... qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships by placing fifth in the 400 meters at the NCAA Midwest Regional (46.03)... earned his first NCAA Outdoor All-America honor as the eighth-fastest American (11th overall) in the 400-meter preliminaries (46.29).

 

2007 (Freshman)

Hulett made a major impact in his first season at Nebraska, pacing the team in the 400-meter dash in addition to helping revitalize the program’s 4x400-meter relay... competed in both events at the NCAA outdoor meet after he garnered NCAA All-America honors in each event during the indoor season... did not place in the 400 at the outdoor meet and did not run the relay due to injury... placed 11th (eighth American) in the 400 prelims of the NCAA indoor meet, while also running anchor on NU’s eighth-place 4x400-meter relay (3:08.68)... received an at-large bid to the NCAA outdoor meet in the 400 after finishing ninth during the prelims of the NCAA Midwest Regional... regrouped to push the Huskers to a third-place 4x400 finish and automatic NCAA qualification with a 45.3 split... clocked his season-best 400 time of 46.01 during the Big 12 outdoor prelims before placing seventh in the finals (46.68)... met the USATF “B” qualifying standard for the 2007 USA Outdoor Championships with the time... claimed top honors in his first outdoor 400 at the John Jacobs Invite in 46.65... ran the third leg for the Husker 4x200-meter relay that twice set the school record, first at the Kansas Relays (1:23.12) followed by a 1:22.62 at the Drake Relays (2nd)... ran a wind-aided 200-meter dash time of 20.82 during the Nebraska Invite... ran a 46.71 at the Big 12 Indoor prelims on the 300-meter oversize track in Ames... won his first collegiate race while reaching the NCAA provisional-qualifying standard at the Holiday Inn Invite in 47.03... finished sixth at the Big 12 indoor meet while also running anchor for NU’s third-place 4x400-meter relay that clinched a share of the Big 12 men’s team title. 

 

Before Nebraska (Bellevue East HS)

Hulett was the fastest prep 400-meter runner of all-time in Nebraska history under Coach Jason Shanahan... set the Nebraska All-Class state record in the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 46.98 at the 2006 Nebraska Class A-3 District meet... the mark ranked eighth nationally among all high school athletes for 2006... swept the 200- and 400-meter dash All-Class Gold Medals as a senior at the 2006 Nebraska Class A state meet with respective winning times of 21.94 and 47.81... also ran on third-place 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays... won the 2006 Kansas Relays boys crown in the 400 in 47.39 after clocking in at 47.28 in the prelims... ran the fastest time ever by a Nebraska prep with his 46.86 to win the 2006 USATF Junior Olympics Region VIII title... won the silver medal in the 400 (47.28) at the Junior Olympics Championships in Baltimore, Md... finished runner-up in the 400 (47.58) in 2006 at the prestigious Golden West Invitational... earned his first All-Class gold and state title in the 400 as a junior at the 2005 Nebraska Class A state meet by finishing in 48.15... finished runner-up in the 200 (22.07) the same year... joined former Husker teammate Robert Rands on the Chieftans’ 4x100-meter relays that finished second in 2004 (43.09) and fourth in 2005 (43.00).
