2009 (Sophomore)
John Ottun (pronounced AH-ten) opened the indoor season on a high note as he shattered his previous best of 6-7 1/2 in the high jump with a leap of 6-10 1/4 at the Holiday Inn Invitational... took his personal best up one-half inch higher at the adidas Classic with a third-place jump of 6-10 3/4... finished third the following week at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational with another clearance at 6-10 3/4... placed in the top five at all four of his outdoor meets... opened at the Jim Click Shootout with a fourth-place leap of 6-8 3/4... ended the year by tying his personal best at the Concordia Twilight with a jump of 6-9 to finish fifth.
2008 (Sophomore/Redshirt Freshman)
Ottun redshirted during the indoor season before competing for the Huskers outdoors... competed unattached at five meets during the indoor season, clearing an indoor season best of 6-7 at the Cornhusker Last Chance to finish second... started the outdoor season at the Jim Click Shootout (6-6 3/4) with an eighth-place finish... jumped two inches higher the next week at the John Jacobs Invitational to clear a season best of 6-8 3/4 and place third.
2007 (Freshman)
Ottun competed only during the indoor season for the Huskers, making his best high jump on four occasions... finished the indoor season with a clearance at 6-7 1/2 for third place at the Prairie Wolf Invite... competed in his first Big 12 Championships where he finished 11th with a leap of 6-6... competed unattached three times outdoors with a best jump of 6-4 3/4 at the Nebraska Invitational.
Before Nebraska (Fremont HS)
Ottun earned silver-medal honors as a senior in the high jump at the 2006 Nebraska Class A state meet with a personal-best leap of 6-9 under Coach Dave Sellon... also qualified for the state meet as a junior in 2005, but did not score.
