2009 (Sophomore)

Cylend (pronounced SY-linn) Simmons earned All-Big 12 honors outdoors, and also set personal bests in both the 400 meters indoors and the 400-meter hurdles outdoors... broke his previous best of 50.66 in the 400 meters at the Holiday Inn Invitational with a time of 49.76... improved his time at his next two meets, with times of 48.86 at the Conference Challenge and 48.35 at the Nebraska Tune-Up... set his personal best and qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in the 400-meter hurdles at the John McDonnell Invitational with a time of 51.92... fell one spot shy of individual All-Big 12 honors at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships after placing ninth in the 400 hurdles (52.31)... ran the third leg of the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay at the conference meet... placed 18th at the regional meet with a time of 54.26.

 

2008 (Redshirt Freshman)

Simmons competed in four meets during the indoor season before breaking out during the outdoor season with his first appearance at the Big 12 Championships and the NCAA Midwest Regional in the 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay... set a then-personal best of 50.66 in the 400 meters at the Prairie Wolf Invitational... placed third at the Baldy Castillo Invitational (54.08) in the 400-meter hurdles to open the outdoor season... finished second to teammate Eric Lund at the Hastings Bronco Relays (54.46)... qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional at the Jim Click Shootout with a time of 52.23, tying for third... finished 12th at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships (53.70Ap) and ran the third leg of the third-place 4x400-meter relay (3:06.43A)... ended the season with a 15th-place finish in the hurdles at the NCAA Regional meet and a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:06.64).

 

2007 (Freshman)

Simmons was a January addition to the Husker roster and redshirted both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

 

Before Nebraska (Westwood HS)

Simmons did not start his hurdle career until his junior season... one week after winning his second straight 300-meter hurdle championship (37.13) at the 2006 Arizona Class 5A State Division I Championships, he broke the all-time Arizona prep record with a time of 37.01 at the Meet of Champions... coached by Harold Smith and Steve Holden... was also first-team all-state as a safety in football... chose Nebraska over Arizona State.
