2006: Arturs Abolins became the first Husker men's athlete to win a national title in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships as a junior... soared to an indoor school-record mark of 26-7 1/4 on his final attempt to win the NCAA indoor crown... broke the 26-foot barrier for the first time in his career during the qualifying round with a leap of 26-0 3/4 that sent him to his first career NCAA final... completed the national title sweep with a jump of 26-3 on his fifth of six attempts at the NCAA outdoor meet... became only the 10th men’s athlete in NCAA history to win both indoor and outdoor long jump national titles in the same season... claimed his second straight Latvian national title (25-2) during the summer... collected his second career Big 12 long jump title at the indoor conference meet with a leap of 25-8 1/4... finished third at the Big 12 outdoor meet with a mark of 25-9 1/2... also ran the lead-off leg for NU's third-place 4x100-meter relay (39.94)... finished fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a jump of 25-5 1/2w to earn the final automatic bid to the national outdoor meet... was defeated by a collegian in the long jump only twice all season... competed in the European Championships during the summer, finishing 16th during the preliminary rounds with a jump of 25-6 in Gothenburg, Sweden... claimed his first career Penn Relays long jump title with a then-outdoor personal-best mark of 25-11... also earned top honors at the Nebraska Invitational (25-5 1/4), while recording a lifetime-best clocking of 10.54 (wind aided) in the 100-meter dash and leading the winning NU 4x100-meter relay to a season-best time of 39.70... placed second (first collegian) indoors in the Championship flight of the Tyson Invite... the performance earned him the first NCAA automatic qualification of his career... won five of six indoor long jump competitions, while finishing as the top collegiate athlete in each meet... won his second consecutive Frank Sevigne Husker Invite title with a mark of 25-3 1/4... earned wins in both the long jump (25-3 1/4) and 60 meters (personal-best 6.80) during the Nebraska-Colorado State-Kent State Triangular... opened the season during the adidas Classic by collecting top honors in the long jump (25-0), while leading all 60-meter dash competitors with a career-low 6.80 clocking during the prelims. 2005: Abolins reached both NCAA Championships for the second straight year in the long jump, and also took over the important lead leg of NU’s record-setting 4x100-meter relay... placed 10th in the long jump at the NCAA outdoor meet with a wind-aided leap of 25-2 3/4... the 4x100-meter relay squad broke the year-old school record at the Midwest Regional with a first-place time of 39.19... the team also defended its Big 12 outdoor title (39.59) for the first time in school history... won his first Latvian national championship with a season-best leap of 25-3 1/2... also competed at the European Junior Championships, finishing 10th (24-3 3/4)... finished runner-up in the long jump at both the Big 12 indoor (25-3 1/2) and outdoor (25-2 3/4) meets... failed to record a legal mark at the NCAA indoor meet... earned the last automatic-qualifying spot for the NCAA outdoor meet at the Midwest Regional with a fifth-place finish (24-5 3/4)... won gold outdoors at the Emporia State Relays (24-11w) and Kansas Relays (24-7 1/4w), while earning silver honors at the Nebraska Invite (25-1 3/4)... also claimed first place in the 4x100-meter relay at the John Jacobs Invite (39.8) and Nebraska Invite (39.86), as well as in the College Division at the Penn Relays (40.23)... won the long jump indoors at the Holiday Inn (24-5), Northern Iowa (24-10) and Husker Invites (24-11). 2004: Abolins recorded a successful freshman season at NU, competing in both indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships... just missed claiming his first All-America honor when he finished ninth in the long jump at the NCAA outdoor meet with a wind-aided mark of 25-1 3/4... won the Big 12 indoor long jump title with a leap of 24-9 on his next-to-last attempt of the competition... took fourth place in the Midwest Regional in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 25-6 to qualify for outdoor nationals... took fourth place in the long jump at the outdoor conference meet with a mark of 25-0 1/2... won the Ward Haylett Invite with a jump of 24-11... took gold in the Nebraska Quadrangular by jumping 24-5 1/2... finished 14th at NCAA indoors with a mark of 23-11 3/4... after not reaching an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark during the regular season, leaped 25-6 1/4 at the Cyclone NCAA Qualifier to earn a spot at the NCAA indoor meet... won bronze in the 60-meter dash in 6.88 to begin the indoor season at the Panther Open... took third place in the long jump at the Holiday Inn Invite with a leap of 23-1 1/4 and at the Husker Invite with a mark of 23-6 1/4... won the long jump in the adidas Classic (23-7 1/4). In Latvia: Came to Nebraska from Latvia with personal bests of 10.79 in the 100-meter dash (10.62w), 21.7 in the 200-meter dash and 24-10 in the long jump... competed at the 2001 World Youth Games in Debrecen, Hungary, placing 16th in the long jump (22-11 3/4)... finished fourth with a season-best long jump of 24-10 in the 2003 Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia Triangular.
