Schmidt matriculated to Nebraska in January from South Africa... in his first indoor race he finished fifth (1:12.13) in the 600-yard run at the Big 12-Mountain West Challenge... ran the 600-meter run once at the Prairie Wolf Invitational in an indoor personal-best of 1:22.37... outdoors, ran mainly the 800-meter run during the outdoor campaign... ran a season-best in the 800-meter run (1:50.92) at the Drake Relays where he was also a member of the fifth-place 4x800-meter relay (7:29.61)... at the Nebraska Invitational ran a season-best 48.90 in the 400-meter dash... ran in the prelims of the Big 12 Championships 800-meters (1:51.25), but missed advancing by one place.

 

High School (Kempton Park)
Schmidt was a standout in the 800-meter run in South Africa... coached by J.J. Smith... ran a personal best of 1:49.75 at the 2006 South African Junior Championships... was the 2005 Franky Fredericks International 800 champion (1:49.77) in Namibia... in 2005, was runner-up in the SA Secondary Schools 800 (1:49.97), third in the SA Junior Championships (1:50.27) and 11th in the SA Senior Championships (1:50.77)... won 800-meter championships (Under 18) in 2004 in the SA Secondary Schools (1:52.19) and SA Junior Championships (1:51.72).
