2015-16 (Freshman)
Brooke Holmes competed in 12 events during the 2015-16 season, compiling with six top-five finishes. As a freshman, Holmes placed in the top six in each of her appearances in the 1,000-yard freestyle, including a career-best 10:39.51 in Nebraska's dual victory over South Dakota State. She added a career-best 5:01.69 in the 500 free at The Big Challenge. At the Big Ten Championships, Holmes finished 37th in the 400 individual medley, 42nd in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 73rd in the 500 free. She also got off to a strong start in the classroom by earning spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2015-16. She was also a member of the 2016 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Previous
Holmes had an excellent career swimming at Omaha Burke High School. Holmes was a three-time state finalist in the 500-yard freestyle. Holmes is a school record holder in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She helped lead Burke to third-place finishes at the 2014 and 2015 Nebraska State Championships. While competing for the Omaha Swim Federation, Holmes set multiple team records and was named the hardest working swimmer on her club team for three consecutive years. Holmes was also a star in the classroom, earning academic all-conference and academic all-state accolades. She was a member of Burke High’s honor roll eight times and was a member of National Honor Society.
Personal
The daughter of Mary Beth and T.J. Holmes, Brooke was born on April 10, 1997, in Omaha, Neb. She has two older sisters, Micki and Marci, and an older brother, JJ. Brooke is a pre-medicine student at Nebraska. She chose Nebraska over UNLV. She claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2015-16, and was a member of the 2016 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
