  • Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (Spring 2010, Fall 2010)

2010-11 (Senior) 

Rachell McClain finished her senior season with the Huskers by setting a career-best time at the Big 12 Championships, along with two season-best times. McClain, a backstroke specialist, won the 100-yard backstroke twice in her senior campaign, once against UNO and once at the Citrus Classic. The Henderson, Nev., native earned second-team academic All-Big 12 honors while adding a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll.

2009-10 (Junior)
McClain continued to be a strong competitor near the end of her junior year with solid performances in January and February. She was able to garner a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke against Iowa State. She also put in solid performances at the Big 12 Championships, including two times in the top five on NU's season performance list. McClain was able to clock a time of 2:02.97 in the 200-yard backstroke, which was the second-fastest time of the year. She also tied for NU's third-best time of the year in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.08.

2008-09 (Sophomore)
McClain was one of Nebraska's top backstrokers in 2008-09, ending the year with the fastest 200-yard backstroke time (2:01.53), which was also good for 10th all-time on the NU career list. McClain set the mark at the Big 12 Championships, where she earned her first top-16 finish when she placed 13th in the 200 back. She also finished 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke. McClain produced six top-five finishes overall on the year, bumping her career total to 15 in her first two seasons at Nebraska.

2007-08 (Freshman)
McClain was a valuable addition to the 2007-08 Nebraska swimming team for her abilities in the backstroke and the individual medley. McClain was solid in both events all season, and finished the year with two top-25 finishes at the Big 12 Championships, in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. McClain had the team's fifth-fastest 100-yard backstroke and fourth-fastest 200-yard backstroke times in 2007-08.

Previous
McClain left Coronado as the school's record holder in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, events where she finished second and third overall in the state of Nevada as a junior in 2006. She added second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively, as a senior in 2007. She was named to the all-region first-team three times and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that set the regional record. A two-time junior national qualifier, McClain swam for the Desert Storm club team, which won three consecutive state championships from 2005 to 2007, while McClain finished second in the 100 back and 200 IM. Rachell was named a USA Scholastic All-American and was a high school All-American at Coronado.

Personal
Rachell was born on Oct. 28, 1988 in Henderson, Nev. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and Terry McClain and has one brother, Lee. Rachell is majoring in communication studies at Nebraska. McClain claimed second-team academic All-Big 12 honors and is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
