2005-06 Season Outlook

Esmie Holderman set three career-best marks last season and hopes to solidify her role as a top distance freestyler this year.  Her two top 15 finishes at the Big 12 Championships last season prove her potential to score points for NU, while see adds to a talented freestyle squad.

 

2004-05 (Junior)

Holderman swam every freestyle event except the 50 during the year.  She specialized in distance events, but saw the biggest improvement in the 200-yard freestyle at the Big 12 Championships, when she knocked four seconds off her career best.  During the season, Holderman enjoyed the most success in the 1,000-yard freestyle, where she placed third three times, and second once.  Holderman also placed as high as fourth in the 500-yard freestyle, and fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle.    

 

2003-04 (Sophomore)

Holderman helped the Huskers to a 7-2 dual record on the season by posting solid scores in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.  She picked up a win at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Kansas in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:59.11.  Holderman finished second in the 1,000- (10:25.42) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:38.23) events against TrumanState and Nebraska-Omaha, both season-best times.

 

2002-03 (Freshman)

Holderman helped solidify the distance events for NU as a freshman, placing first on the season charts in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.60), third in the 1,000 (10:38.37) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:31.56).  She finished 12th in the 500-yard free (5:00.27) and 14th in the 1,650-yard free (17:31.56) at the Big 12 meet.  Holderman finished second in the 1,000-yard free at Nebraska-Omaha and against Wyoming.

 

Previous

A three-time YMCA All-American, Holderman swam for Coach Dan Halladay at PalosVerdesPeninsulaHigh School in San Pedro, Calif.  Holderman received numerous team and individual awards during her prep career, including Most Inspirational and Most Improved swimmer.  Her team received the spirit award at YMCA Nationals.  She helped lead PalosVerdesPeninsula to a second-place finish at the California Interscholastic Federation Meet.

 

Personal

Esmie was born in Torrance, Calif., on July 5, 1984, to Anne and Dennis Holderman.  Esmie is majoring in biological sciences at Nebraska.
