2005-06 Season Outlook

Alex King was one of the Huskers' top middle-distance and distance freestyle swimmers last season and contributed in the butterfly events.  This season King will be looking to play a major role in sprint freestyle events as well as middle-distance freestyle and butterfly events.

 

2004-05 (Junior)

King was one of <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska's top contributors as a junior.  Her time of 24.00 in the 50-yard freestyle in the preliminaries at the Texas Invitational tied a career best and was also the second-fastest time for the Huskers during the season.  Another career best at the Texas Invite, King’s time of 56.67 in the 100-yard butterfly ranked third on the team, and was more than two seconds faster than her previous best.  King won three races in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and added another in the 100-yard butterfly.  She also qualified for the consolation finals in the 50-yard freestyle at Big 12 Championships, and placed 16th.

 

2003-04 (Sophomore)

King earned a a pair of top-20 finishes at the Big 12 Championships, placing 17th in the 50 free (24.00) and 19th in the 100 free (52.66).  She put points on the board for the Huskers as part of strong 800- and 400-yard freestyle relay squads.  King picked up a win against Missouri in the 800-yard free relay (7:41.16) and a second-place finish against Nevada and Fresno State in the 400-yard free relay (3:35.59).  She was a member of relay squads that performed well at the Big 12 Championships, earning fifth place in the 400-yard free relay (3:30.55) and sixth in the 800-yard free relay (7:31.87).

 

2002-03 (Freshman)

King placed 15th in the 500-yard free at the Big 12 meet (5:02.65) and placed 16th in the 1,650-yard free (17:32.26).  She also earned a top-20 finish in the 200-yard free at the Big 12 Championships (19th, 1:53.69).  King won both the 200- and 500-yard free at Nebraska-Omaha.  She won the 200-yard free against Wyoming, helping Coach Pablo Morales to his first NU dual-meet win.  She also won the 500-yard freestyle at Northern Arizona.

 

Previous

King placed second in the 500 free (5:02.95) in the Texas regional meet and 11th at state.  AmarilloHigh School won a district championship in 2000-01 and she was selected district swimmer of the year in 2002.  King was the Long Course state High Point Winner in 2001.  She was a four-time letterwinner for Tim Estes at AmarilloHigh School.  She also earned a pair of academic letters.  King swam club for Luke Thomason and the Amarillo Swim Team.

 

Personal

Alex was born on Nov. 25, 1984, in Baltimore, Md., to Sandra and Alan King.  Alex has one brother, Andrew.  She is majoring in chemical engineering at Nebraska.
