2003-04 Season Outlook<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Angie Matheu (Pronounced: ma-TAY-oh) was a valuable addition to the Husker squad last season, helping NU in three different strokes. One of the team captains this year, she will be counted on for experience and leadership as NU's lone senior.

 

2002-03 (Junior)

Matheu was one of NU's top sprint freestylers...placed 13th in both the 100-yard breast (1:05.34) and the 50-yard free (23.75) at the Big 12 meet...finished second in the 50-yard free against Texas in the season-opening dual (24.90)...took first place in the 25-yard free (11.30) at the Husker Sprint Challenge...won the 100-yard free against Wyoming (53.70)...won 50-yard free against Kansas and Louisville (24.51).

 

Previous

Matheu led American River Community College to a fourth-place finish at the California State Championships in 2001 and 2002...selected as the athlete of the year at American River CC in 2002...won three titles, including the 50-yard breast (30.11), 50-yard free (24.22) and 100-yard free (52.90)at 2002 CAJC Championships...swam a leg on school-record setting 200- and 400-yard medley relays as well as the 800-yard free relay...swam for Coach Bethani Black at American River CC...named MVP for water polo and swimming in 2002...swam under Coach Brian Botsford at Cordova.

 

Personal

Angie was born on July 6, 1982, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and is the daughter of Charlotte and Randolph Matheu...she has four sisters, Michelle, Jenny, Sharon and Bianca...major: exercise science...holds Guatemalian citizenship and speaks fluent Spanish.
