Senior (1999-00)
Sasha Pine demonstrated a strong senior season, with highlights at the NCAA Championships and the Big 12 Championships. At nationals, Pine individually swam a 4:48.76 for a 25th-place showing in the 400 IM. In the 200 fly, she hit a time of 2:18.27 for 44th. Pine assisted several relay teams, where they earned an honorable-mention All-America honor in one. The 800 free relay team hit a time of 8:14.00 for 14th, and her team for the 400 free relay finished in 19th for a time of 3:50.86. At the conference championships, Pine added a third-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.33. She finished fourth in the 200 free for a time of 2:02.54. She also added a sixth-place finish of 2:01.77 in the 200 breaststroke.
Junior (1998-99)
Pine narrowly missed earning All-America honors at the NCAA Championships, placing 17th in the 400-yard IM (4:19.48). She also competed in the 200-yard butterfly (34th, 2:02.95) and 200-yard IM (41st, 2:04.96) at the NCAA meet. Pine was a triple finalist at the Big 12 Championships, finishing third in the 400-yard IM (4:20.75), fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:56.43) and eighth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.59). She posted a career-best time of 4:16.68 in the 400-yard IM (second all-time at NU) during the preliminaries at the Texas Invitational in December, where she would end up finishing sixth in the finals (4:17.80). She helped NU to a 7-3 dual record, posting four wins on the season: including the 1,000-yard free versus Colorado State and Kansas, the 200-yard back versus Missouri and the 3000-yard IM at the FAU Invitational and was a runner-up in the 400-yard IM at the Big 12 Invitational.
Sophomore (1997-98)
Pine made her debut at the NCAA Championships and earned three top-eight Performances at the Big 12 Championships. At the conference meet, she was runner-up in the 400-yard IM (4:19.20); sixth in the 200-yard back (2:01.59) and eighth in the 200-yard fly (2:03.97). She narrowly missed All-America honors at the NCAA Championships, finishing 22nd in the 400-yard IM (4:21.66) and 31st in the 200-yard back (2:01.54). Recorded season-best efforts of 10:17.58 in the 1,000-yard free against Kansas and 17:35.47 in the 1,650-yard free at the Husker Shoot Out. She finished fifth in the 400-yard IM at the Texas Invitational with a time of 4:23.14. earned two dual wins, one in the 200-yard fly against Iowa State (2:05.54) and the other in the 400-yard IM against Minnesota and Texas A&M (4:22.61).
Freshman (1996-97)
At the Big 12 Championships, Pine finished fourth in the 400-yard IM (4:20.95), fifth in the 1,650-yard free (17:08.37) and 10th in the 200-yard fly (2:05.36). She won the 400-yard IM against Kansas. Pine finished as a runner-up at the Husker Shoot Out in the 400-yard IM and against Iowa State in the 1,000-yard free. Her top finishes elsewhere included a third-place 200-yard fly performance against Kansas and a fourth-place 1,650-yard free showing at the Missouri dual.
Before Nebraska
Pine was a 1996 Australian Olympic Trials finalist in five different events (200- and 400-meter IM; 200-meter back; 200-meter fly and 400-meter free). As a 400-meter IM short-course national champion in 1994, she finished runner-up in the 400-meter IM in 1995. She held the 34th-fastest mark in the world, swimming the 400-meter IM in 1994. She was an Australian Carlile Club member. Pine's parents were both Olympic swimmers, her dad for Holland (400-meter IM, 200-meter fly, 200-meter breast) and her mom for Australia (400-meter IM, 200-meter IM, 200-meter back).
Before Nebraska
Parents: Sasha was born on March 21, 1977, to Roger and Diana Van Hamburg. Sasha got married to Husker senior co-captain Adam Pine on July 31, 1999, in Sydney, Australia. Her maiden name is Van Hamburg, which she now uses as her middle name.
