  • Two Letters (1996, 1997)

    Sophomore (1996-97)
    Markota's top dual finishes came against Kansas on the one-meter (228.22, seventh) and Minnesota on the three-meter (220.13, sixth). Her other season highlights included an eighth-place one-meter springboard showing against Minnesota in November and a second-place finish on the three-meter board in non-scoring competition at the Husker ShootOut. 

    Freshman (1995-96)
    One of the numerous young freshmen on the diving squad, Markota came up at the Big Eight Championships with a fourth-place showing on the three-meter board (a career-best 430.80) and a sixth-place finish on the one-meter (330.30). She dove strongly at the 1996 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships with 25th and 30th-place marks on the three-meter and one-meter, respectively. Her best dual meet finish was a second-place effort on the three-meter (258.075) versus Iowa State. In one-meter action, her best dual meet effort came against Minnesota, where she scored a 233.495. 

    Before Nebraska
    Markota was a four-year CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) diving finalist, claiming third overall in both 1992 and 1993. She was the 1992 Prep League Champion. She swam at Mayfield Senior School, in addition to participating on the volleyball and basketball teams.

    Nikki was born on Oct. 12, 1977, to Michele and Robert Markota.
