    Senior (1997-98)
    Carew rounded out her collegiate season in an impressive manner. At the Big 12 Championships, Carew swam in the 100 free, placing 22nd with a time of 53.88. She took her all-around talent to the 100 fly, where she swam an 18th-place time of 58.99. 

    Junior (1996-97)
    Suffering from mononucleosis during mid-season, her participation was kept at a minimum for a couple of meets. Carew was one of ten first-team Academic All-Big 12 picks on the team. She recorded season-best efforts of 23.83 seconds in the 50 free and 53.33 in the 100 free at the Big 12 Championships in the exhibition heats. Her season-best 100 fly time was 59.17 against Missouri. Her top finishes of the season included a victory in the 50 free versus Iowa State (24.31) in November and a third-place finish in the 100 fly against Colorado State (59.28).

    Sophomore (1995-96)
    Carew earned honorable-mention NCAA All-American honors in the 200 free relay (14th) and the 400 free relay (12th). She demonstrated her versatility at the Big Eight Championships, earning gold medals as a member of the 200 free and 200 medley relay teams, in addition to fifth-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 100 backstroke. 

    Freshman (1994-95)
    As a freshman, Carew qualified for the NCAA meet in the 50 free (64th), 100 free (55th) and was a part of the 200 free relay (17th) as well as the 400 free relay (18th). She finished fifth at the Big Eight Championships in the 50 free (23.63). She also won the consolation finals of the 100 free and finished in 10th in the 200 free at the conference championships. She swam as a member of the conference-champion 200 free relay team. 

    Before Nebraska
    Carew qualified for state four consecutive years (1990-93) in high school, finishing first in the 50 free all four years and first in the 100 free in two of those years. She holds the Iowa state high school record in the 50 free (24.20). She was the Iowa Female Swimmer-of-the-Year in 1991 and 1992, as well as a Scholastic All-American in the latter.

    Erin was born to Wilfred and Katherine Carew on Nov. 28, 1975.
