Senior (1998-99)
At the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, Wright added competitive times in three events. She put her best finish up in the 500 free, where she swam a 5:02.09 for 14th-place. She also swam in the 100 (19th, 52.82) and the 200 freestyles (16th, 1:55.16).
Junior (1997-98)
Wright set a career best in the 100 free (51.87) to finish 17th at the Big 12 Championships. She also finished 17th in the 200 free (1:52.92, season best) and 17th in the 500 free (4:58.65, season best). She also contributed to the 400 medley relay team's victory over Iowa State (3:55.25). Her top individual dual finish was a fourth-place 500 free finish against Missouri (5:18.48). Wright also notched two sixth-place finishes against Kansas in the 100 free (54.40) and the 200 free (1:57.57). She received an honorable-mention Academic All-Big 12 award.
Sophomore (1996-97)
Wright made a big impact on the honorable-mention All-America 800 free relay team at the NCAA Championships, where they swam a time of 7:21.44 for a tenth-place finish. She also qualified for nationals in the 200 free and finished 45th in a time of 1:51.86. At the Big 12 Championships, she aided in the 800 free relay to a then-school, Big 12 and conference record, where she swam a time of 7:19.28. She turned in an exceptional Big 12 meet individually with a career-best, conference finish of fifth in the 200 free (1:51.54f and 1:51.37p, career best), an 11th-place showing in the 50 free (23.91, career best) and a 13th-place finish in the 100 free (52.29)
She aided the 200 free relay to a second-place finish at the Nike Sprint Classic. She finished in 11th in the 200 free and 14th in the 100 free at the Texas Invitational. With a late-season come-up, she garnered three runner-up finishes in the sprint freestyle events against Iowa State, Missouri and Kansas. Wright made first-team academic All-Big 12.
Freshman (1995-96)
As a member of the NCAA honorable-mention All-America 200 free relay team that finished 14th overall (1:34.83), Wright also contributed to two conference titles in the 200 and 400 free relays at the Big Eight Championships. She finished in seventh in three other events at the conference championships: 50 free (24.43), 100 breast (1:06.76) and 100 free (52.15). Wright was the team newcomer of the year.
Before Nebraska
Wright was the Nebraska state champion in the 100 free (1992, 1993, 1995) and the 100 breast (1992, 1994). She swam for the Nebraska Aquatics USS team.

Shannon was born on August 18, 1976, to Richard and Gayle Wright.
