    Junior (1999-2000)
    At the Big 12 Championships, McDonald grabbed a pair of ninth-place finishes on the one- and three-meter boards. She scored a 377.50 on the one-meter springboard and a 437.00 on the three-meter. Throughout the season, McDonald solidified her skill by taking the one-meter title at the Husker Shoot Out, where she scored a 213.05. In a close loss to Missouri, McDonald took the one-meter victory, with a score of 168.95.

    Sophomore (1998-99)
    McDonald solidified herself as the team's No. 2 diver behind Amanda Zins, diving consistently throughout the year. She was a three-time consolation finalist at the Big 12 Championships, finishing in ninth on the one-meter (341.20), 11th on the three-meter (430.20) and 13th on the platform (242.40). She qualified for the NCAA Zone D Championships for the second-straight year, placing 15th on the three-meter (416.30) and 16th on the one-meter (335.55). She closed out the regular season with a victory on the three-meter and runner-up showing on the one-meter in NU's win over Missouri. She won the one-meter as Nebraska defeated Kansas. 

    Freshman (1997-98)
    Posted the second-best marks on the team at the Big 12 Championships, finishing 11th on the one-meter (332.15) and three-meter (410.50). McDonald was one of two Huskers to compete in platform diving at the conference championships (sixth, 246.69). At the NCAA Zone D Championships, she finished 20th on both the one-meter (281.60) and the three-meter (339.80). Against Iowa State, she was a runner-up on the three-meter board (258.07) and third on the one-meter (250.20). She finished in second in the three-meter competition at Kansas (482.78). 

    Before Nebraska
    McDonald was named the 1997 North Dakota High School Athlete-of-the-Year and was also Bismarck's Amateur Athlete-of-the-Year for 1997. She was an All-American diver in 1996 and 1997. She finished first at the North Dakota state high school meet for three consecutive years (1994, 1995, 1996)
