Junior (1998-99)
Simon was among the team's top competitors in the IM events, qualifying for the finals in both the 200 and 400 IM at the Big 12 Championships. She recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:03.85), a fifth-place showing in the 400 IM (4:21.30) and an 11th-place finish in the 200 fly (2:06.59). Her dual highlights included a victory in the 100 fly versus Iowa State and a second-place finish in the 200 IM versus Colorado State and Kansas. As a first-team academic All-Big 12 honoree, Simon was also a nominee for GTE\CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors.
Sophomore (1997-98)
Simon played a big role at the Big 12 Championships, finishing fourth in the 400 IM (4:21.59), fifth in the 200 fly (2:02.98) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:03.65). At the World Championship Prep Meet, she finished in second in the 400-meter IM (4:24.95). Her top regular-season showing was a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:25.44) against Minnesota and Texas A&M. At the Sprint Classic, she finished third in the 100 IM (59.86). She placed seventh in the 400 IM (4:24.46) at the Texas Invite to highlight three top-16 finishes. She received first-team academic All-Big 12 honors as well as NSCAA Honorable-Mention Academic All-American.
Freshman (1996-97)
Simon was one of nine freshmen representing the Huskers at nationals. Her NCAA effort was showcased by a 16th-place, honorable-mention All-America performance in the 400 IM (4:21.01). Her other NCAA finishes included a 24th-place showing in the 200 IM (2:02.45) and a 32nd-place showing in the 200 fly (2:04.53). She earned a gold medal at the Big 12 Championships in the 400 IM en route to setting a then school- and conference-record in the event (4:19.15). She excelled in the 200 fly at the Big 12 Championships, with a fourth-place finish (2:03.65). Her top dual showings of the year included runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and the 200 breast, she also had a third-place 200 back finish against UC Santa Barbara. She was a NSCAA Academic All-American.
Before Nebraska
She was a runner-up in the 400 IM at the 1996 Spanish National Championships. She finished in second in the 400 IM and third in the 200 IM at the SPanish Championships in July of 1994. She held a world ranking of 50th in the 400 IM during 1997. She swam for the Spanish club team, C.N. Catalunya.
