2008 Season
Selenia Iacchelli battled through an offseason stress fracture in her foot to appear in 16 games for the Huskers in 2008, including starting the last five contests. Iacchelli, known for her abilities on free kicks, earned three assists during the regular season, including a career-high two in NU’s 3-2 win over Missouri on Sept. 28. She also collected a game-winning assist in Nebraska’s 3-0 shutout of Texas Tech on Oct. 19. She posted a season-high eight shots, including four on goal, against Baylor on Oct. 5 and finished the season sixth on the team in shots with 23.
2007 Season
With the graduation of Brittany Timko, Iacchelli stepped into a leadership role in the midfield for the Huskers in 2007. Iacchelli notched nine points on three goals and three assists to finish second on the team in points. Iacchelli led the team in assists (3), shots (50) and shots on goal (24), as she started all 19 of Nebraska's contests.
After a slow start to the season with just three shots and one assist in the first six games, Iacchelli turned up the intensity and helped guide the NU offense the rest of the year. She notched three goals and two more assists as she led the team in shots in nearly every contest the rest of the way.
Iacchelli earned her first goal of the season with a game-winning score in a 5-1 Nebraska victory over Saint Louis on Sept. 21. She put all five of her shots on goal against the Billikens. Iacchelli followed with her second goal in as many games by finding the back of the net in a 1-1 tie against No. 12 Florida on Sept. 23. She added an assist against Oklahoma in a 1-0 Husker win to notch her fifth point in three games.
Iacchelli scored her third assist of the year to lead Nebraska to a 4-0 victory over Lamar on Oct. 12, before taking a season-high nine shots against Baylor on Oct. 19. She was stifled by several stingy Big 12 defenses until collecting a goal in the final game of the season against Iowa State on Nov. 2. Overall she launched 27 shots in the final five games, including 12 shots on goal.
2006 Season
After playing at the 2006 FIFA World Championships with the Canadian U-20 team, Iacchelli returned to the Huskers in 2006 and started in 19 games.
Iacchelli put 16 of her 46 shots on goal in 2006 and earned a pair of goals. Her first goal of the season came in Nebraska's 4-1 win over Drake on Sept. 10. She added another toward the end of the season on Oct. 22 to lift the Huskers to a 1-0 shutout over Oklahoma. The goal was the first game-winner of her career.
Iacchelli's offensive production intensified over the last two weeks of the regular season. In addition to her goal, she led Nebraska against Oklahoma State on Oct. 20, as she tallied four shots, including two of NU's three shots on goal. In NU's final regular-season match against Loyola-Chicago, Iacchelli took four shots, including one on goal and earned an assist on the Huskers' first goal of the contest.
The assist was her second of the season, after notching the game-winning set-up against Texas Tech on Oct. 8. With her two goals and two assists, Iacchelli ranked fourth on the Husker points chart with six.
2005 Season
Iacchelli had a leg up on the 10 other freshmen in the Huskers' 2005 class after enrolling at NU in January and joining the team for the spring season, which included road trips to perennial powers Duke, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio State.
Iacchelli also benefited from extensive international experience with the Canadian Under-20 and Under-19 National Teams. At Nebraska, she scored four goals while starting all 21 games in the midfield. Her nine points ranked second among all freshmen, and she was one of 10 Huskers and three freshmen to score a goal in 2005.
Iacchelli enjoyed a career game against Missouri on Oct. 2. In addition to scoring her third goal of the season, Iacchelli picked up the first assist of her career and finished with a career-best three points. Her final goal came against Oklahoma State on Oct. 23.
Iacchelli's first goal was a highlight-reel finish. She took a cross from Aysha Jamani and sent a diving header into the back of the net that capped a 3-1 Husker victory over Rice on Sept. 11. The second goal of her career tied NU's Sept. 18 game with UC Irvine at 1-1.
High School
Iacchelli attended St. Francis Xavier high school, where she participated in the soccer academy in each of her three years at the school. Iacchelli was awarded the Golden Ball Award, presented to the top player in the academy. Off the field, Iacchelli was named to the academic honor roll in each of her three years at St. Francis Xavier.
Other Information
Iacchelli was a three-year member of the Under-20 Canadian National Team. She helped lead Canada to the CONCACAF Under-19 World Championship in 2004, and was also a member of Canada’s 2003 Pan-American Games team and its 2006 U-20 World Championships squad.
Additionally, Iacchelli has spent the past three summers playing with the W-League's Vancouver Whitecaps.
Personal Information
Selenia is the daughter of Felicia and Angelo Iacchelli. She has two sisters, Rossella and Stefania, and one brother, Dario. Selenia was born on June 5, 1986. She is majoring in nutritional science and dietetics at Nebraska.
