2006 Season
As a sophomore, Jessie Goodell earned the first starts of her career in 2006, including a start in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska's 4-0 win over TCU on Sept. 17, and in NU's 1-0 shutout of Oklahoma and 3-2 win over Loyola-Chicago to end the regular season. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
An aggressive forward, Goodell attempted 20 shots with 10 shots on goal, after taking just 15 total shots during her freshman campaign.
Despite her efforts, Goodell struggled to find the net through most of the season. However, her hard work paid off in NU's final regular-season match, as Goodell put the Huskers on the board just two minutes into the match with the second goal of her career. Goodell's first career goal also came late in the season as she tallied a score against Portland in NU's final contest at the NCAA Tournament in 2005.
In addition to her scoring potential, Goodell was an important set-up player, gaining assists on goals by freshman Savannah Allen, junior Jessie Bruch and sophomore Selenia Iacchelli in 2006. Goodell's assists on Allen's goal against WrightState, as well as on Iacchelli's goal on Oct. 22 against Oklahoma, were both game-winners.
Goodell also had an opportunity for a goal recalled in the opening weekend of Big 12 play against Missouri on Sept. 24, as the score was ruled an own goal by the Tigers.
The Durango, Colo., native missed two Big 12 matches due to a knee injury in 2006, but returned to the pitch in NU's wins over Baylor and Texas Tech.
2005 Season
Goodell saw action in all 23 games as a true freshman in 2005, including 19 contests where she logged at least 25 minutes. As part of a talented 11-player freshmen class, Goodell took nine shots and recorded an assist on a Tanya Dennis goal in her first career game against Minnesota on Aug. 26.
Goodell was one of the first substitutes off the bench all season and added solid depth for NU. She played a career-high 55 minutes against Kansas on Sept. 30 and recorded the first two shots on goal of her career at Texas Tech on Oct. 30. Including the Texas Tech game, Goodell attacked more of toward the end of the season and saw action at forward.
At the Big 12 Tournament, Goodell saw action as a forward against Kansas and Texas A&M. She notched her second assist of the season against the Jayhawks and had two shots that nearly found the back of the net. At the tournament, Goodell attempted six shots, including three on goal.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Goodell notched several academic accolades including being named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll following both the fall and spring semesters of her freshman year.
High School
Goodell distinguished herself both on and off the field while starring at Durango High School. In her freshman season, Goodell earned Colorado 5A first-team all-conference honors.
In her sophomore year of 2003, she again garnered first-team all-conference accolades in addition to receiving the Durango Golden Boot award. She also began the season on the Denver Post’s Top 20 5A midfielders to watch list and as one of the Rocky Mountain News’ Top 50 5A players in Colorado.
As a junior, she was again on the watch lists and repeated as a first-team all-conference selection and Golden Boot award winner.
In 2005, Goodell earned second-team all-state honors in addition to first-team all-conference accolades.
At Durango, Goodell was also a member of the varsity cross country team. In the classroom, she was on the Gold Honor Roll, as well as the National Honor Roll. She was also a member of National Honor Society and Who’s Who Among American High School students.
Other Information
The Colorado native played her club ball in New Mexico for the Rio Vista Elite Soccer Club as a four-year member of the Olympic Development Program. She helped lead her team to three state championships and a Region IV championship in 2001. A testament to her love for the game, Goodell traveled three hours from her home in Durango to play for Rio Vista.
Personal Information
The daughter of Craig and Sandy Goodell, Jessie has one brother, Brandon, 22. Jessie was born on Oct. 5, 1986. She has not declared a major at Nebraska.
