2006 Season
Second-year goalkeeper Jamie Klages started all 19 games in goal for the Huskers, playing 90 minutes in all but two contests. During that time, she made 68 saves and earned four shutouts, including one against <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Oklahoma on Oct 22, for a 10-7-3 record on the year.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Perhaps Klages' most impressive performances came in the opening weekend of Big 12 play, as she recorded 16 saves over two contests including seven to shut out Missouri on Sept. 22. Klages went on to record a season-high nine saves against IowaState on Sept. 24. The 5-11 keeper notched another strong performance on Oct. 13 against Texas A&M, tallying nine saves and holding the Aggies scoreless through 63 minutes. She finished the season with a goals-against average of 1.10.
2005 Season
Klages split time at goalkeeper with returning starter Katie Wright, but secured the job during Big 12 play and started the remaining games in goal for NU. Klages recorded three consecutive shutouts in league play from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7, including a double-overtime shutout over Kansas. She posted shutouts in four of six starts to open her Big 12 career.
Klages got her career off to a tremendous start, posting her first shutout of the season against UAB on Aug. 28 and extending her career-opening scoreless-minutes streak to more than 150 minutes before allowing the first goal of her career at Big Ten power Illinois on Sept. 2.
Klages led the team with a freshman-record 75 saves in 2005. She recorded a career-high nine saves, including several crucial stops, in the 0-0 double-overtime tie with Kansas on Sept. 30. She also tallied eight saves at Texas Tech on Oct. 30. In the first postseason action of her career, Klages made 10 saves against Kansas and Texas A&M at the Big 12 Tournament, including several key one-on-one saves to prevent goals.
Klages posted a 1.19 goals-against average in her first season. She allowed more than one goal in only three of her 18 career starts. Her goals-against average was lower than Wright's from 2004 and ranked fifth in the Big 12 Conference. The Coronado, Calif., native ranked fourth in save percentage, tied for fourth in shutouts, sixth in saves, tied for sixth in shutouts per game and seventh in saves per game.
Klages got involved in the Husker offense with a game-winning assist in Nebraska's 1-0 win at Baylor on Oct. 7. She took a free kick from just past the midfield stripe and defender Sasha Andrews headed the ball to midfielder Jessie Bruch, who finished with the goal.
Although it is still early in her career, Klages ranks fifth on the NU career chart in saves (88), fifth in games started (19), sixth in minutes played (1,734), wins (10) and games played (19), and eighth in goals-against average (1.19).
High School
Klages was a co-captain for Coronado High School where she posted 18 shutouts in 30 games as a senior. She was the 2005 San Diego CIF Division III player of the year, as well as the Western League Player of the year. She was also the San Diego Union-Tribune's Female Athlete of the Year. Her 50 career shutouts rank third on the all-time San Diego section list and she finished her three-year starting career with a record of 81-11-12.
Prior to her outstanding senior season, Klages earned second-team All-Western League honors in 2004 as a member of the Division III CIF San Diego Section championship team. Her high school coach, Miles Ramirez, who also coached Mexican National Team goalkeeper Linnea Quinones, ranks Klages alongside any other goalkeeper he has ever coached.
Klages also starred for Coronado’s volleyball and track and field teams. She was a co-captain of the league-champion Islanders volleyball team and was the San Diego CIF high jump champion for all divisions. Her best jump of 5-10 1/4 ranked third in the nation.
Outside of sports, Klages was actively involved with student government and received the Pepsi-Cola Scholarship & Leadership Award, as well as the CHS service award and the Big Kahuna award.
Other Information
Klages earned an invitation to train with the U.S. Under-20 National Team in the summer of 2005. She played her club ball with the PQ Premier Soccer Club along with fellow Husker freshman Ali Lokanc. The duo led the team to the quarterfinals of the National Cup.
Personal Information
The daughter of Peggy Crane and Mark Klages, Jamie has one sister, Katie, 21. She was born on Oct. 9, 1986. She has not declared a major at Nebraska.
