2005 Season
Sasha Andrews started 22 games in her senior season, recording 13 shots on goal resulting in six goals. She notched four game-winning goals, tying her for the team lead in the category with Brittany Timko. Andrews, along with Timko, was voted Most Valuable Player for the 2005 Husker Players Awards. Andrews' play earned her first-team All-Big 12 honors for the second consecutive year.
Andrews also benefited from her international experience. She established herself further with the Canadian National Team by starting a number of games for the squad in 2005.
2004 Season
Andrews started every game for the Huskers in 2004. A newcomer to the team, her experience at Southern Methodist and as a member of the Canadian National Team helped her succeed and earn first-team All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Newcomer honors in her first season. The Edmonton, Alberta, native was one of the main reasons the Husker defense limited opposing teams to an average of just six shots on goal and 1.25 goals per contest.
Excellent at winning balls in the air, Andrews emerged as a part of Nebraska's offensive attack. She scored the game-winning goal in NU's 3-0 win over Texas Tech on Oct. 15, and added an assist against Baylor on Oct. 17, for her most productive weekend as a Husker. Andrews also scored the Huskers' only goal against Texas A&M on Oct. 10, heading the ball into the net off a corner kick. She teamed with Brittany Timko to provide the game-winning assist against Missouri on Oct. 1, again off a corner kick.
Andrews recorded her first assist against Northern Colorado on Sept. 17, and added her fourth and final assist of the season against Oklahoma State on Oct. 22. Against Creighton on Sept. 21, Andrews scored her first goal with Nebraska, a game winner in the 72nd minute.
Off the field, Andrews earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in her first season of eligibility.
Previous School (Southern Methodist)
As a freshman, Andrews started 18 games for Southern Methodist, finishing with three points and one game-winning goal. As a defender, she started every game but one in her two years at SMU, establishing herself as one of the top defenders in the Western Athletic Conference.
High School
Andrews was a three-year letterwinner at Harry Alnlay and also served as team captain. She helped lead her team to the city championship and was named Alnlay’s most outstanding female athlete. Andrews also lettered in volleyball and basketball, where she was selected as the team’s most valuable player.
Other Information
Andrews joined fellow Huskers Sari Raber and Brittany Timko as members of the Vancouver Whitecaps in the W-League. She was also a member of the Under-19 and Under-21 Canadian National Teams. Andrews played against Argentina and the United States in the 2003 Women’s World Cup and scored her first goal with the senior national team against Mexico on Sept. 4, 2003. She also spent time with the senior national team in 2005.
Personal
Sasha was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Feb. 14, 1983. She is the daughter of Edward and Undine Andrews and has two brothers, Kwame, 22, and Dorian, 18. She is majoring in nutrition, fitness and health promotion.
