2005 Season
Katie Wright, a promising young goalkeeper, had her junior year cut shot by a season-ending injury. She started four games, recording 11 saves and a 3-1 record.
2004 Season
Wright was solid in goal for Nebraska in 2004, playing every minute in net. She posted a 14-9 record and allowed 28 goals in 23 games for a 1.25 goals-against average. For the season, Wright made 108 saves and posted seven shutouts, including a 3-0 shutout over Oral Roberts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
With a season-high nine saves against Kansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Wright became only the second goalkeeper in school history to record 100 saves in a season.
Wright was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 7, after posting back-to-back shutouts against Eastern Illinois and Purdue, a pair of 2003 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
Among other Big 12 goalkeepers, Wright ranked in the top six of every goalkeeping category.
Off the field, Wright was honored for her work in the classroom by earning a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the spring semester.
2003 Season
Wright played goalkeeper in eight contests, including five starts in her first season as a Husker. She started both NCAA Tournament games, posting a total of 15 saves against Washington and Portland.
Wright saw her first action against Iowa, when she played nearly 20 minutes, recording two saves without allowing a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Hawkeyes.
Wright was thrown into the fire, getting her first collegiate start against No. 1 North Carolina on Sept. 7. Against the Tar Heels, Wright snatched a career-best 10 saves but allowed six goals to the eventual NCAA champions.
Wright got her second start against Murray State and collected the first shutout of her career with three saves on the day. She also started against Texas Tech, recording one save and allowing one goal in 45 minutes of action.
She faced 83 shots on the season and shared a shutout with Brooke Bredenberg against Iowa for 1.5 shutouts on the year. Ten of the 12 goals Wright surrendered on the season came at the hands of top-five teams.
High School
Wright recorded 15 shutouts and never conceded more than one goal in a contest during her senior campaign for Mission Viejo High School. She was voted the team's most valuable player as a junior.
In 2001 and 2003, Wright earned first-team California Interscholastic Federation honors and was the Orange County Register Player of the Year in 2003. She helped lead Mission Viejo to a No. 2 ranking in the state of California and a No. 7 national ranking as a senior.
Wright also earned three letters in track and field and two in volleyball during her prep career.
Other Information
Wright was a member of the California Olympic Development Program from 1998 to 2003 and was a member of the regional team in 2001 and 2002. She made trips to Brazil and England with the ODP team in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
Personal Information
The daughter of Tom and Jennifer Wright, Katie has one brother, Stephen, 22. She was born on Nov. 2, 1985, in Mission Viejo, Calif. Katie is a psychology major.
