Brooke Bredenberg

2004 Season
Brooke Bredenberg (pronounced BRAY-den-burg) performed well in her return to the field after spending most of the 2003 season in goal for the Huskers. She played an integral role in Nebraska's offense, scoring six goals and adding two assists. Her 14 points ranked third on the team.

In the NCAA Tournament, Bredenberg ended her career in grand fashion, finishing with two goals and an assist while leading the Huskers to their eighth Sweet 16 appearance in the last nine seasons. In first-round action, she assisted on a Nikki Baker goal in the 21st minute as Nebraska trounced Oral Roberts 3-0. Bredenberg got the Huskers on the board early against Big 12 nemesis Kansas in the second round. Her free kick from 30 yards out helped Nebraska beat Kansas 2-1 in overtime. She scored the Huskers' lone goal in the third round versus Illinois. Her goal came on a header but wasn't enough as Nebraska fell 2-1.

2003 Season
Bredenberg made the move from the midfield to the goal as a junior, and the transition was successful for the Huskers. She posted an 11-6-1 record with 2.5 shutouts on the season.

The Dayton, Minn., native logged 1,557 minutes in 18 games last season. She made 77 saves in 17 starts in goal, including a season-high eight against Oklahoma State.

Bredenberg produced a 1.39 goals-against average, allowing 24 goals in 2003.

She also saw action in the midfield four times, with regular-season appearances against Murray State and Texas Tech and postseason action against Washington and Portland in the NCAA Tournament. She notched two shots on the year. 

She also had one assist from her goalkeeper spot on a goal by Kari Hogan against Texas A&M.

2002 Season
Bredenberg started NU's first 12 games in the midfield, and showed great potential throughout 2002.  The Dayton, Minn., native played in all 25 games, despite breaking her jaw against Yale in the NCAA Championships. She had her best stretch during the road trip to Texas, when Nebraska faced Texas Tech and Baylor. Bredenberg scored goals in both games and added an assist against the Red Raiders.

She scored six points on two goals and two assists. Bredenberg took 21 shots on the season, with 10 on goal.  In the Big 12 Tournament, she played in all three games and got off two shots.  She was outstanding in the midfield, and made an impact for the Huskers when she was on the field.

Bredenberg made the transition from midfielder to goalkeeper during the spring, starting all seven games in goal. She did not surrender a goal against an amateur team. The only goals she allowed were against the WUSA’s Atlanta Beat and the Philadelphia Charge.

2001 Season
Bredenberg saw action off the bench in six Husker contests (Northern Iowa, Evansville, Missouri, Texas Tech, Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament and Boston College in the NCAA Tournament), firing one shot.

Starting both games in the spring season, Bredenberg used the opportunity to impress the Husker coaching staff.  She had one shot against Notre Dame.

High School
A midfielder/forward at Champlin Park High School, Bredenberg helped the Rebels to a conference championship as a senior in 2001. Coached by Denise Collins, Bredenberg earned all-state honors for her efforts as a junior and senior. She scored 58 points on 23 goals and 12 assists as a junior.

Also a track standout, Bredenberg finished second in the 300-meter hurdles at the 2001 Minnesota Class AA state meet with a time of 43.98. She holds the Champlin Park school record in the 300-meter hurdles, and was a three-time team MVP. Bredenberg earned four letters in soccer and track and was a three-time letterwinner on the basketball court.

Bredenberg graduated from Champlin Park with high honors, and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Other Information 
Along with her high school experience, Bredenberg helped the Blackhawks club team to the 2001 Under-18 State Cup title. The Blackhawks then represented Minnesota at the Midwest Regional championship in Springfield, Mo.

Personal Information
The daughter of Randy and Laurie Bredenberg, Brooke has two sisters, Bridget, 29, and Becky, 24, and one brother, Ben, 26. Brooke was born on Nov. 7, 1982, in Minneapolis, Minn. She is an art education major.
