2003 Season
Christy Harms had her final season at Nebraska cut short when she tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in the seventh game of the season against Mississipi State.
Harms started the first seven contests to lead a young Husker defense early in the season. The Blue Springs, Mo., native continued to lead the Huskers from the sideline as NU's only senior on the 2003 roster. She was named Most Inspirational Player and also received the Aerobic Power Award for the 2003 Husker Player Awards.
She was also named to the Rocky Rococo Wisconsin Invitational All-Tournament Team as a defender.
2002 Season
In her junior season, Harms became a vital part of the Nebraska defense, starting all 25 games in 2002.
Starting the year out right, Harms scored the first goal of the season against No. 2 North Carolina 1:55 into the game. She took nine shots on the season and four of them were on goal.
Harms was a force in the Huskers' backfield, helping NU post 14 shutouts and a 0.86 goals-against average.
She was most dominant in the 2002 Big 12 Tournament, where she was honored as the tournament defensive MVP. Harms stepped up as the central defender in place of Breanna Boyd and played outstanding, knocking down several opponent scoring threats. She helped the Huskers post a 0.66 goals-against average for the tournament, as NU conceded two goals.
2001 Season
Playing primarily as an attacking forward, Harms earned a starting role as a sophomore in 2001, producing 20 points on eight goals and four assists in 23 games. She finished the season ranked fourth on the team in points.
For the second time in her career, Harms scored goals in three straight games (Baylor, Missouri and Kansas). She scored at least one point in five of NU's final seven games. Her other regular-season goals came against Arizona, BYU, Iowa State and Texas Tech. Harms also scored against BYU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She assisted two Kori Saunders goals at USC.
Harms' outstanding performance in the classroom earned her second-team academic All-Big 12 honors, along with a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll both semesters.
2000 Season
Harms notched a goal in four of the Huskers' last five games, finishing the season with 22 points on nine goals and four assists playing primarily as a forward. She scored in every Big 12 Tournament game and added a goal against Richmond in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament. A Big 12 Conference all-tournament selection, Harms ranked third on the squad with nine goals. She saw action in all 24 games as a freshman, including four starts.
Her first career goal came on Aug. 27, against Arkansas-Little Rock. One week later, Harms notched her first career multiple-goal game, scoring three goals against Drury on Sept. 3. The game also marked her first career start.
Harms added a goal against then-No. 24 Purdue, helping the Huskers to a 4-1 victory on Sept. 10.
High School
Harms was a two-time first-team all-stater at Class 4A (largest) Blue Springs High School for Coach Doug McAlgan. She was a four-time all-conference, all-district and all-area selection in soccer. She scored 62 points on 26 goals and 10 assists as a senior.
Harms also earned three letters in track and field, helping her team finish seventh in the state in the 4x400-meter relay in 1999. She ran the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events as a junior and senior, while competing in the long jump and triple jump as a sophomore. She also lettered two years in basketball and played volleyball for two seasons. An outstanding student, carrying a 4.09 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, Harms was an honor roll member for four years.
Other Information
Harms played soccer for the KCFC Pizzazz, an Under-18 club team in Kansas, winning the State Cup in 2000, after winning the Under-17 Cup in 1999. She was a member of the Missouri Olympic Development Program in 1998 and 1999, and a member of the ODP Regional team.
Personal Information
The daughter of Doug and Trudy Harms, Christy has two brothers, Ryan, 22, and Cameron, 15. She was born July 11, 1982, in Independence, Mo. Harms owns a 3.337 GPA in community health education.
