2001 Season
An extremely skillful player, Kelly Rheem scored 15 points on five goals and five assists in 2001. Rheem scored the game-winning goal at USC on Sept. 9, and added Nebraska's first scoring shots against Baylor and Missouri.
In the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, Rheem scored two goals - including the game winner - in NU's 5-1 win over Baylor.
Rheem ranks seventh in school history with 93 career points. Her 29 career goals rank sixth in school history, while her 35 career assists rank fourth.
She saw action in 93 Husker games, throughout her career, trailing only Meghan Anderson and Becky Preston for games played in school history.
2000 Season
Starting at forward in all 24 games for the Huskers, Rheem produced 25 points on five goals and a league-leading 15 assists en route to earning second-team All-Big 12 Conference honors for the second consecutive season. Rheem's 0.63 assists per game ranked 15th in the nation.
The Littleton, Colo., native posted three multiple-assist games in 2000, and scored goals against Minnesota, Southwest Missouri State, Florida, Oklahoma State and Baylor (in the Big 12 Tournament). Rheem scored the game-winning goal against Southwest MIssouri State and Baylor.
She earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the second straight season.
1999 Season
Rheem earned second-team All-Big 12 and first-team academic All-Big 12 honors after amassing 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. Her 11 goals trailed only Meghan Anderson's 21 and Christine Latham's 12 goals on the NU squad, while her 28 points ranked fifth on the team and ninth in the Big 12.
She started 24 of Nebraska's 25 games. Rheem notched her only game-winning goal of the season in the Husker's 1-0 win over Texas Tech in the season opener, and she added her only game-winning assist in a 5-1 regular-season win over Missouri. Her only two-goal performance of the year came at Oklahoma State. She scored the Husker's lone goal against Notre Dame in the NCAA quarterfinals.
1998 Season
Rheem led all Big 12 freshmen and ranked third among the Huskers with 25 points on eight goals and nine assists to earn a spot on the Soccer Buzz Central Region All-Freshman Team. She also earned a place on the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
Rheem played in all 22 games, including the first start of her career in a 2-0 win at USC. She scored a career-high seven points with her first career hat trick and the game-winning assist in a win over Loyola-Chicago. She added a second hat trick against Texas Tech. She posted the first goal of her career and added her first career assist against No. 8 Clemson.
High School
Rheem was one of the most decorated recruits in Husker history, earning Gatorade Circle of Champions and The Denver Post Colorado Player-of-the-Year honors for Coach Kirk Best at Arapahoe High School. She earned Parade Magazine and NSCAA All-America honors and was a Soccer America top 25 recruit. Rheem led Arapahoe to the Class 5A state title in 1998. She was a four-time Class 5A first-team all-stater and a three-time first-team all-class, all-state forward. Rheem was an honor roll student, a member of the National Honor Society and a volunteer at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.
Other Information
Rheem earned a spot among the pool of players for the United State Under-17 National Team along with fellow Husker Meghan Anderson. She was a Region IV Olympic Development Program player and helped her Lakewood Fury club team to a Far West Regional title in 1997. Rheem played on the same club team (Lakewood Fury) as former Husker All-Americans Kari Uppinghouse and Lindsay Eddleman.
Personal Information
The daughter of Clark and Ann Rheem, Kelly has three brothers, Clay Hammerstein, 36, Alex Hammerstein, 29, and Walker Rheem, 27, and one sister, Julie Hammerstein, 33. Kelly was an advertising major and carried a 3.438 GPA. Rheem, who is diabetic, has been active as a public speaker about the disease. She was born Jan. 18, 1980.
