2001 Season
A consistent offensive threat for the Huskers, Becky Preston moved to defender in 2001, helping to fill the shoes of departed All-American Jenny Benson and All-Big 12 selection Christine Gluck. Preston helped Nebraska post a 1.16 goals-against average, while recording seven shutouts.
She recorded four assists as a senior, upping her career total to 18, which ranks 10th in school history. Preston assisted the game-winning goal against Northern Iowa on Sept. 21.
Preston wrapped up her academic career with several accolades, including being on the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for both semesters, being named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII team, and being named first-team academic Big 12.
Playing in 94 games for Nebraska, Preston tied Meghan Anderson for most games played in school history.
2000 Season
Preston was a solid force all season for the Huskers, scoring 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. She finished the season ranked fifth on the team and tied for ninth in the Big 12 Conference in assists.
Against then-14th-ranked Texas A&M, Preston bumped the game-winning goal off her chest after a cross from Jenny Benson bounced off Aggie goalkeeper Esther Thompson in front of Preston. Her efforts earned her team-of-the-week honors from Soccer America. Preston's other game-winning goal of the season came against Drury on Sept 3.
Against Florida on Sept. 8, she recorded the first multiple-goal game of her career, scoring twice.
1999 Season
Preston started all 25 games and added first-team academic All-Big 12 accolades as a sophomore. She produced 11 points on four goals and three assists, and scored the first game-winning goal of her career in Nebraska's 5-0 win over Minnesota in the NCAA Tournament. She added game-winning assists in wins over Iowa State and Oklahoma. Preston added NU's first goal in the win over the Sooners. She scored the Huskers' first goal in a 3-2 ovetime win over Portland, and notched a goal against Oklahoma State. Her first assist of the season came againt Oral Roberts.
1998 Season
Preston scored seven points on two goals and three assists while appearing in all 22 games. Along with being one of only Huskers to play in all 22 games, she made the first start of her career in a win at Missouri Oct. 18. Preston made the most of her start by scoring the game's first goal and adding the game-winning assist to tie a then-career high with three points. She scored the first goal of her career in an 11-0 win over Loyola-Chicago, and added her first career assist against the Ramblers. She posted an assist against Southwest Missouri State. Preston also performed well in the classroom, earning a spot on the Big 12 Conference Academic Honor Roll.
High School
Preston captured first-team All-Nebraska honors after leading Omaha Burke to the Class A state semifinals in 1998. She also helped Burke, which was coached by Steve Moore, to the state tournament as a second-team all-stater in 1997. Preston was a two-time, first-team All-Metro pick and a four-year starter as a defender for the Bulldogs, playing alongside Husker teammate Meghan Anderson. Along with four letters in soccer, Preston lettered once in cross country.
Preston was an exceptional student at Burke. She carried a 4.21 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also served for three years on the student council.
Other Information
Preston played forward and joined Anderson as a member of the Gladiator Forte club team coached by Chris Perrone. Presten helped Gladiator Forte to the regional semifinals in 1997.
Personal Information
The daughter of Jim and Theresa Preston, Becky has three brothers, Jim, 28, Steve, 26, and Mike, 24. All three of her brothers have attended the University of Nebraska. A student-athlete advisory board member, Becky was an accounting major and carried a GPA of 3.598. She was born Feb. 8, 1980.
Preston grew up on the same block in Omaha as high school and club teammate and fellow Husker Meghan Anderson.
