1998 Season
Sandy Smith appeared in 16 games for the Huskers in 1998, recording one shot on goal and two assists. She notched a game-winning assist versus No. 8 Clemson in a 4-1 win on Sept. 11. She earned the Team Spirit Award in the Husker Player Awards and also a spot on the academic All-Big 12 first-team.

1997 Season
Smith appeared in all 22 games as one of Nebraska's top reserves, helping the Huskers to an 18-4 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She finished the season with four points on four assists. She recorded two assists in an 8-0 win over Arkansas, and added assists in wins over Iowa State and Texas Tech. An outstanding student, Smith carried a 3.334 grade-point average as an advertising major to earn first-team academic All-Big 12 Conference honors for the second consecutive year. She also claimed the Husker Power Award.

1996 Season
Smith appeared in 19 games and recorded two assists to help the Huskers to a 23-1 record, a Big 12 Conference title and a trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. She notched one assist in Nebraska's 10-2 win over Colorado and added her second assist of the season in the Huskers' 3-0 win over Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors. Smith shared the Husker Team Spirit Award with Kristen Gay.

1995 Season
Smith appeared in 18 and started 15 games for the Huskers as a freshman. She tallied nine points and shared the team lead with seven assists. She scored her only goal in an 8-1 win over Kansas. In the game against the Jayhawks, Smith also recorded career-highs with three assists and five total points. She added assists against Arizona, Loyola-Chicago, Florida State and the game winner against Texas. She was a Big Eight Academic Honor Roll member and won the the Husker Aerobic Power Award.

High School
Smith earned four letters for Coach Kerry Kelter at Huntington Beach, scoring 31 goals and 67 assists in her career. She was first-team All-Sunset League in 1994 and 1995 and second-team in 1993. She was voted Huntington Beach's best all-around player in 1993, 1994 and 1995. She earned three letters in track and volleyball and two in softball. She was also the 1995 Huntington Beach Student-Athlete of the Year.

Other Information
Smith has played for one of the nation's finest club teams, North Huntington Beach, from 1989 to 1997. Smith and Husker teammates Jenny Benson and Kim Engesser helped North Huntington Beach to the Under-19 national championship in 1996 and a second-place finish in 1995. She played on North Huntington Beach teams that captured state titles in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Personal Information
The daughter of Walter and Sherry Smith, Sandy has a younger brother, Drake, 19. She was an advertising major and held a 3.334 grade-point average. She was born Sept. 26, 1977.
