1998 Season
Kim Engesser was one of only seven Huskers to start all 22 games in the 1998 season. Engesser led Nebraska in almost every offensive category. She recorded 61 points on 27 goals and seven assists. Her 27 goals also broke the Nebraska single-season record, which she had set the previous season. She also notched eight game-winning goals and one game-winning assist. She tallied hat tricks against Oklahoma, Iowa State and Texas Tech, while she had two-goal games against No. 8 Clemson, Southwest Missouri State and Missouri. On her way to MVP honors for the Husker Player Awards, she ranked fourth nationally in points per game (2.77) and goals per game (1.23). She was also award Big 12 Conference Player-of-the-Year honors and a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 first team.
1997 Season
Engesser had the best offensive season in Nebraska history in her first season as a Husker, leading the nation with a Nebraska single-season record 26 goals scored. She finished with a Husker single-season record 55 points to rank 13th nationally in total points. Engesser earned first-team All-Central Region honors to go along with first-team All-Big 12 Conference and All-Big 12 Tournament accolades.
Engesser set a Nebraska single-game record by scoring four goals, including a school record-tying three second-half goals, to finish with eight points in the Huskers' 4-1 Big 12 Tournament win over Baylor. She added her third hat trick of the season in a 5-1 win over then-No. 15 Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She posted her first hat trick in a 7-0 win over Iowa State. Engesser finished the year with a school record seven multiple-goal games, including two-goal performances against Colorado, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma.
1996 Season

Engesser played 17 games and started two for the Pilots, who finished 19-1-2. Portland advanced to the NCAA semifinals with a 1-0 win over Nebraska in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. One of the two games Engesser started was the Pilots' win over the Huskers. Engesser scored four points on one goal and two assists on the year.
1995 Season

Engesser was an honorable-mention All-West Coast Conference pick after scoring 23 points on nine goals and five assists in 21 starts as a freshman midfielder for the Pilots. She finished the season as the seventh-leading scorer in the West Coast Conference. Engesser appeared in 22 of 23 games, helping the Pilots to a 20-1-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Finals, where Portland lost to Notre Dame, 1-0, in overtime.
High School
Engesser was a Soccer America Super 11 Recruit and Parade Magazine All-American after earning Golden West League Athlete-of-the-Year honors as a senior in 1994. She was a three-time All-Sunset League and All-Orange County selection and a two-time All-California Interscholastic Federation pick for Coach Ron Uehle at Ocean View High School. Engesser won Ocean View's MVP Award three times, the Best Offensive Player Award two times, and was the team captain as a senior. Engesser holds school career records with 101 goals and 51 assists. She also set single-season marks with 96 points, 39 goals and 18 assists as a senior, while leading Ocean View to the Golden West League title. She earned four letters in soccer and track, and two each in cross country and softball. Engesser established the school record in the 300 hurdles and was a member of the school-record setting 4x400 relay team.
Other Information
Engesser was a U.S. Under-20 National Team member in 1996 and a U.S. Under-16 player in 1993. She played for North Huntington Beach, one of the nation's best club teams, from 1989 to 1997. Engesser and Huskers Jenny Benson and Sandy Smith helped North Huntington Beach to the Under-19 national title in 1996 and a No. 2 finish in 1995. Engesser's North Huntington Beach teams captured state title in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996. Kim's mother, Jan Engesser, was one of her coaches on the North Huntington squad. Kim was also coached by George Mitton at North Huntington Beach.
Personal Information
The daughter of Ed and Jan Engesser, Kim has two brothers, Brian, 23, and Kevin, 4, and one sister, Christie, 23. Brian was a soccer letterwinner for Notre Dame, and Christie lettered in cross country and track at Oregon. Kim was a secondary physical education major. She was born Sept. 13, 1977, the same day as Husker teammate Amy Walsh.
