1999 Season
Michele Culbertson appeared in two games for the Huskers in an injury shortened season. She battle mononucleosis for much of the season, but was still able to score once on two shots on goal.
High School
Culbertson earned Colorado Player-of-the-Year honors from the Rocky Mountain News as a sophomore for Coach Art Drotar at Horizon High School in Thornton, Colo., after amassing 63 points on 26 goals and 11 assists. As a junior, Culbertson managed 23 points on nine goals and five assists, despite missing much of the season with an ankle injury. Culbertson also scored 23 points on nine goals and five assists as a freshman. She added nine goals as a senior to produce a Horizon High School record 53 career goals.
She was a two-time first-team All-Colorado player and a two-time first-team All-Class 5A player and a two-time first-team All-Class 5A (Colorado's largest class) selection. She added honorable-mention all-state honors as a senior. She was a four-time All-Front Range Conference pick and was a team captain. She participated in the Colorado Coaches All-Star Game in 1998 against fellow Husker Kelly Rheem.
In addition to her soccer achievements, Culbertson also participated in basketball, softball and track. She was a four-time academic all-stater and earned five academic letters while carrying a 3.8 grade-point average.
Other Information
Culbertson plays club soccer for coaches Andy Fuentes and Rafael Amaya and the Colorado Legends. In 1997, Culbertson and the Legends lost to Karla Ledford's club team, Littleton United, in the State Cup finals. Culbertson also played for the Fort Collins Force in the same women's semi-pro league as the Denver Diamonds, which Jenny Benson and Lindsay Eddleman played for in 1998.
Personal Information
Michele is the daughter of John and Susan Culbertson. Michelle has one brother, Aaron, 12, and a sister, Diane, 19, who is a sophomore on Colorado State's track team. She was born on June 10, 1981, in Denver, the same day as freshman Breanna Boyd.
