2005-06 Outlook
An air rifle specialist, Eva Richert (pronounced E-fa RYE-kert) spent only half of the 2004-05 season with the Huskers after competing in Germany until January of 2005. With a full slate of matches in front of her this season, Richert will work toward increasing her smallbore role, as well as aiming for a chance to shoot for the top air rifle spot at the NCAA Championships in April.
“Eva’s got a lot of natural talent,” Head Coach Launi Meili said. “She takes to new situations very quickly and I expect her to be in the top four finishers at nationals either in smallbore or air rifle.”
2004-05 (Freshman)
One of five newcomers in 2004-05, Richert joined the Husker rifle squad after competing in her home country of Germany during the first half of the season.
Richert shot a season-best 579 in smallbore against Alaska-Fairbanks on Feb. 13 at the NCAA qualifiers and a 588 in air rifle in the same competition. In just her first season of collegiate competition, Richert competed at the NCAA Championships and helped the Huskers to a third-place overall team finish.
As a Junior Competitor
Richert came to Nebraska as one of the top shooters in Germany. Competing for Coach Howard Buhre’s SV Hegelsberg-Vellmar club, she finished 11th at the 2004 German nationals. Richert took top honors in the Northern Hessen club league in 2004, helping the team to a runner-up finish in state league air rifle. She was the 2002 State champion in air rifle and the 2003 State champion in smallbore.
