2005-06 (Senior)
As Nebraska’s lone senior, Misty Chanek entered the 2005-06 season with the responsibility of leading a relatively young Husker squad back to the NCAA Championships. The Texas native handled the position flawlessly, shooting match-high scores on nine occasions this season to lead the Huskers to an undefeated team record.
Chanek excelled in smallbore, where she shot a career-high score of 591 on Oct. 22 against Air Force to begin her senior season. Chanek repeated that honor at the NCAA Qualifier on Feb. 11. She also boasts the highest smallbore average on the Nebraska roster with a 585.5. At the GARC Championships, Chanek was named the 2006 Senior of the Year and went on to finish second overall in smallbore with a score of 589.
After finishing fourth in air rifle at the NCAA Championships, Chanek finished her collegiate career by earning All-America honors in both events.
2004-05 (Junior)
One of three returnees on the roster in 2004-05, Chanek brought experience and leadership to a young squad. Chanek earned a team-high air rifle score of 596 against Mississippi on Nov. 20.
Chanek made her third NCAA Championships appearance in as many years and earned second-team All-America honors in both smallbore and air rifle for the second consecutive season. Chanek was also named to the CRCA All-Collegiate honorable-mention air rifle team following her 10th-place finish in the event at the NCAA Championships.
2003-04 (Sophomore)
One of five newcomers on the roster, Chanek quickly established herself as a valuable contributor in Nebraska’s NCAA-qualifying campaign. A regular in both events, Chanek topped school smallbore records for both season average (1,166.54) and aggregate smallbore score (1,184). She fired her career best in air rifle (392) against UTEP in the NCAA Qualifier.
Chanek developed into a team leader in both smallbore and air rifle in 2003-04, and qualified in both events as an individual at the NCAA Championships, finishing 10th in smallbore and 11th in air rifle.
At Tennessee Tech (Freshman)
Chanek spent her freshman year at Tennessee Tech. A first-team Ohio Valley Conference selection, Chanek led Tennessee Tech to an eighth-place finish at the 2003 NCAA Rifle Championships. She was the Eagle eyes top performer at the NCAAs, placing 12th in the smallbore competition with 1,164 points.
As a Junior Competitor
Chanek enjoyed an impressive career in the junior ranks, capped by a runner-up finish at the 2003 Junior Women’s National Championships and a third-place finish at the 2003 Junior Olympic Championships. Chanek won three U.S. National Indoor Junior Championships (1997, 1998 and 2000), and dominated at the local level, winning one Texas state championship, four Texas Junior Olympic Rifle titles and six National Rifle Association Sectional titles.
