2003-04 Outlook
Sherri Gallagher brings a wealth of international and national level success into the Husker program. A member of the USA Rifle National Development team, Gallagher placed second in the women’s 3x20 position event at the 2003 Junior Olympics and seventh in the event at the U.S. Nationals. Gallagher, who competed at TCU last season, will have three years of eligibility beginning next season.
"We are excited to have Sherri in our program," Head Coach Launi Meili said. "She’s already a world champion in high power (rifle) and comes to us with the experience of being able to compete at that level and excel in competition. Sherri has a positive attitude and really loves the sport."
At TCU
Gallagher competed for Texas Christian for the first half of the 2002-03 season. She was a regular in both events, firing a season-high score of 385 in air rifle at Nevada in the season opener on Sept. 7, while turning in her season-best smallbore total of 1,153 in a loss to Army on Nov. 2. In her final competition, she placed second in the smallbore (1,145) and fifth in air rifle (371) in a loss to UMKC.
As a Junior Competitor
Gallagher has enjoyed great success since starting her national-level shooting career at age 5. She is a member of the USA Rifle National Development team after placing second at the 2003 Junior Olympic Nationals at the 3x20 air rifle event. She also placed seventh at the U.S. Nationals in 2003 and placed fifth at the British Nationals in 2002, her fourth straight British Long Range Nationals appearance. In all, she holds 12 national or junior-level records and has competed at international matches since she was 14. Gallagher was a member of the U.S. Under-21 squad that won a gold medal at the 2000 World Championships and became the first American to ever qualify four times for the Queen’s Finals of the British Nationals Competition, doing so from 2000 to 2003. She also shoots in the long range, fullbore and highpower rifle events.
