2005-06 (Sophomore)

Sophomore Andrea Franzen continued her domination of the air rifle in 2005-06 after placing second nationally in the discipline at the 2005 NCAA Championships.  Franzen tied her career-high mark of 593 in the event against Air Force on Oct. 23 and earned a total of four match-high air rifle marks.  Franzen's performance also tied her with Kristina Fehlings for the sophomore air rifle record (593), which Fehlings shot in February of 2005. 

Franzen also made a number of appearances on the smallbore team and improved her best score by eight points over her freshman season-high of 578.  Her performance moved her into the smallbore lineup for the NCAA Championships where she shot a 579 in addition to shooting a 580 in air rifle.

Franzen ended her collegiate career at Nebraska with her second All-America honor in air rifle after finishing second in the event the previous season.  Franzen will not return to Nebraska for her final two years of eligibility, instead opting to return to her native country of Sweden.

2004-05 (Freshman)
One of two international newcomers in 2004-05, Franzen did not join the Husker rifle team until January, but her impact was immediately felt.

She shot a season-best 578 in smallbore at the Great America Rifle Conference Championships on Feb. 26 and fired a season-high 593 in air rifle against Alaska-Fairbanks on Feb. 13 in the NCAA qualifiers.  She went on to finish second overall in the event at the NCAA Championships.  Her success earned her recognition as first-team CRCA All-Collegiate in air rifle and placed her first among the Huskers with an average score of 590.8 in the discipline.  Franzen also holds the top-five scores in air rifle for any freshman at Nebraska following the 2004-05 scoring change.

As a Junior Competitor
Franzen came to Nebraska as the defending Swedish champion. She holds the Swedish junior record in air rifle (398 out of 400). Franzen has participated on the Swedish National team since 2002 and finished seventh in the 2004 Euro Championships. She took fifth at the Euro Championships in 2003.

Personal
Andrea was born on April 9, 1984, in Ostersund, Sweden. A 2003 graduate of HjalmarStromerHigh School, Franzen has two younger sisters, Elena, 19, and Joanna, 15. Andrea enjoys cross country skiing and likes a wide range of music. Franzen chose Nebraska over Alaska-Fairbanks and UTEP because of the educational and athletic opportunities NU provides and a desire to shoot for Coach Launi Meili.
