2009 (Junior/Sophomore)

Seth Burney had a breakout season in 2009, as he earned All-America honors both indoors and outdoors, while also winning the Big 12 outdoor pole vault title... opened the indoor season with back-to-back wins at the Holiday Inn Invitational and Conference Challenge... cleared 17-1 3/4 or more at six straight meets, starting with the Conference Challenge... broke his previous best of 17-4 1/2 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, clearing 17-6 1/2 to take top honors... took the bar up even higher at the next two meets, vaulting 17-7 3/4 at the Nebraska Tune-Up and 17-10 1/2 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, earning the silver medal at the conference meet and moving into the No. 3 spot on the all-time NU indoor performance list... vaulted 17-6 1/2 at the NCAA Indoor Championships to finish fifth and earn All-America honors... cleared 17-0 3/4 or more at all six of his outdoor meets, including a personal-best vault of 17-9 at the Concordia Twilight, which ranks as the No. 5 performance all-time at NU outdoors... reeled off a three-meet win streak that was capped with his first Big 12 title at the conference championships in Lubbock, Texas... finished fourth at the NCAA Midwest Regional to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships... earned All-America honors at the national meet with a ninth overall/sixth American finish, clearing 17-2 3/4.

 

2008 (Sophomore/Redshirt Freshman)

Burney scored at the Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor Championships in his second year under Pole Vault Coach Kris Grimes... competed at nine meets during the indoor season, placing in the top five at eight meets and the top three at six meets... finished third at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a vault of 17-0 3/4... competed at five meets during the outdoor season... posted a then-personal-best outdoor vault of 17-0 3/4 at the Kansas Relays on April 19... tied for fifth at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships with a vault of 16-6 3/4... ended the 2008 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a 13th-place finish.

 

2007 (Freshman)

Burney made an impact for the Huskers in his first season, including a then-personal-best vault of 17-4 1/2 during the indoor season to tie for seventh in the NU record book... earned all-conference honors and helped the NU men to a share of the team title at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a third-place finish (17-1 1/2)...  took top honors in the pole vault three times in 2007, including his first collegiate meet where he jumped 17-0 3/4 at the Conference Challenge on Jan. 20... earned titles in the college division of the Tyson Invite (17-4 1/2) and the Prairie Wolf Invite (16-11)... redshirted with an injury during the outdoor season.

 

Before Nebraska (Beatrice HS)

Burney concluded a brilliant prep career by claiming the 2006 Nebraska All-Class gold medal in the pole vault under Coach Arnie Cerny... won the Class B state meet as a senior with a state meet-record height of 16-0 1/4, breaking the previous standard shared by former Huskers Gable Baldwin (2003) and Samuel Ogden (2005)... also set the all-time state record of 16-7 to win the Gene Kruger Invitational in Elkhorn, Neb., breaking Baldwin’s former record of 16-4... led Beatrice to the 2006 Class B team title by placing third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.13), fifth in the long jump (21-3) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.21) in addition to his win in the pole vault.
