As a Freshman (1996-97): Nicholl played No. 5 singles as a freshman for NU, posting a 6-14 record. In doubles competition, Nicholl teamed with Magnus Grahn to go 0-2 at the No. 2 spot. Nicholl also joined Andrew Wiese at No. 3 doubles, posting a 4-7 mark.
