Perez saw success in doubles alongside fellow junior, Victor Moreno Lozano, and sophomore teammate, Albert Sprlak-Puk, defeating the No. 1 doubles teams for Illinois and Penn State.
In the classroom, Perez earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters.
Before Nebraska
Perez transferred to Nebraska after beginning his collegiate career at Virginia Tech. Perez combined for 27 victories in his two seasons at Virginia Tech, posting a 12-9 record in singles play and 15-7 mark in doubles action. He had an 11-7 singles record as a freshman in 2018-19, including a 5-4 record in ACC play. Perez won his only match competing in the No. 3 singles spot, went 2-1 from the No. 4 spot and was 8-6 from the No. 5 spot. He also went 14-5 in doubles play, finishing with an 11-5 mark on the Hokies' No. 2 doubles team and a 3-0 record from the No. 3 spot. In a 2019-20 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Perez went 1-2 in both singles and doubles play.
At Virginia Tech, Perez climbed as high as No. 46 in the doubles rankings. Outside of collegiate competition, Perez was ranked among the top 1,700 players in the world in the ATP singles rankings and among the top 900 doubles players in the world.
Prior to enrolling at Virginia Tech, Perez was ranked as the No. 1 junior player in Venezuela and one of the top 20 players in South America. A bronze medalist at the Youth South America Games, Perez was ranked as high as No. 124 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior rankings.
