Arturo Navarro Season 2006-07

Outlook (2006-07)<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

In his second year with the Huskers and his last year of eligibility, senior Arturo Navarro will look to pick up from where he left off at the conclusion of the 2006 spring season.  Hampered by injuries during the fall, a now healthy Navarro hopes to improve upon his fall record of 1-6.

 

As a Junior (2005-06)

Transferring from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Navarro arrived in time to compete for the Huskers during the 2006 spring season.  In an attempt to find Navarro’s most beneficial position on the team, head coach Kerry McDermott shuffled him between the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 spots.  Navarro did not see action until midway through the season when he competed in the HEB Tournament at the No. 2 spot against No. 37 Middle Tennessee State’s Marco Born as he lost in two sets, 7-5, 6-0.  Competing in only five matches during the spring, Navarro compiled a record of 1-4.

 

At Tennessee-Chattanooga (2003-05)

Navarro spent two seasons competing for the Mocs prior to transferring to <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska.  In Navarro’s second year at UTC he compiled an impressive 16-11 record in singles during the spring season, earning All-Southern Conference honors for No. 1 singles.  Navarro also earned a winning record, 13-9, in doubles competition while primarily competing at the No. 1 spot.

 

As a freshman at UTC Navarro was a strong competitor for the Mocs.  Competing in 14 singles matches and 17 doubles matches, and compiling a 6-8 record in singles and an 8-9 record in doubles, Navarro gained a great amount of value through his experience on the court.  A notable performance came when Navarro advanced to the semifinals of the UTC Baras Tournament in the “A” Flight of doubles with teammate Thomas Knizat.

 

High School

Navarro attended the Instituto Santa Monica in Naucalpan, Mexico.  In 2001 Navarro was ranked No. 3 in the nation for the under-18 age group.  While in high school Navarro was also a two-time state champion.

 

Personal

Arturo was born on March 3, 1983, in Mexico City, Mexico, and is the son of Ignacio Navarro and Maria Guzman.  He has three sisters, Guadalupe, Rosa and Gabriela, and two brothers, Ignacio and Gullermo. He is majoring in Marketing at Nebraska.
