1990: Senior Season
Kirksey capped off a historic career as a Husker, by capturing a NCAA Championship on the parallel bars...earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships by placing third in the pommel horse, third all-around and first on the parallel bars...won the all-around Big Eight Championship by winning four events at the conference meet...captured Big Eight Championships in the floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars...at the conference meet placed third in the vault and fourth on the horizontal bar.
1989: Junior Season
Kirksey joined former Husker Kevin Davis on the U.S. team that competed at the World Gymnastics Championships at Stuttgart, West Germany in October...in his first international competition, he placed 66th in the combined all-around with a 111.85 score...became the fourth Husker to win the NCAA all-around title, with a Nebraska career-high score of 57.65 and should be a leading contender to win the 1990 Nissen Award ...could become only second Husker to win two all-around championships since Jim Hartung won in 1980 and 1981...he went on to win three All-America awards at the NCAA Meet by tieing for second on parallel bars, finishing fifth on horizontal bar and sixth on pommel horse...also won the Big Eight all-around title (57.50) by placing in all six events, and won floor exercise, pommel horse and parallel bars.
1988: Sophomore Season
After tying for eighth place in the optional qualifying round of the NCAA Championships with a then-career high 57.25, Kirksey bypassed the all-around competition to to concentrate on the team finals...socred a 57.0 in the team finals, including then-career highs of 9.8 on the floor exercise and 9.7 on the paralle bars, to lead the Huskers to the team title...gained All-America honors by tying for sixth on the vault...finished fourth in the all-around (57.1) at the Big Eight Championships, won the pommel horse and placed third on floor exercise and vault.
1987: Freshman Season
Scored a 56.9 in the all-around as a true freshman to finish fifth at the U.S. Winter Nationals, earning a spot on the U.S. Senior National team.
Atlanta School of Gymnastics:
Kirksey followed Husker Olympian Kevin Davis from the Atlanta School of Gymnastics, where he became the fourth gymnast from that school to compete for the junior national team.
Personal:
The son of Bill and Nancy Kirksey, Patrick was born June 4, 1968, in Atlanta, Ga...he is a 1996 graduate of Tucker High School...he has two sisters and one brother, and he is a finance major.
