One of three Huskers on the 1988 U.S. Olympic squad, Suter became NU's second Nissen Award winner in 1986. A five-time NCAA All-American at Nebraska, Suter finished his Husker career as a three-time NCAA champion. At the 1985 NCAA Championships, Suter won national titles in the all-around, floor exercise and horizontal bar.

At Nebraska: Suter became the second Husker gymnast to ever capture the NCAA all around title, scoring a career-high 58.20 to edge UCLA’s Tony Pinvda and Arizona State’s Dan Hayden by .15 for the gold medal. Added to his NCAA title haul the next night, by capturing the floor exercise title outright, and tying with Hayden for top honors on high bar. His three NCAA titles were also his first All-America rankings in his three seasons at Nebraska. Captured four individual titles at the 1985 Big Eight meet (all-around, pommel horse, vault, and tied with teammate Neil Palmer on high bar) while leading the Huskers to the team title. Captured at least one individual title at least once in every invitational the Huskers entered last season, and won on every apparatus except rings. Averaged 57.38 in the all-around in the last eight meets of 1985 and raised his career-best in each of the last four. Came on strong as a sophomore to score over 57 in the all-around for the first time in his career. Finished fourth in the all-around at the Big Eight meet. The only remaining member of the Huskers’ last NCAA championship team, Suter was a freshman alternate in 1983 who overcame a broken finger to score a 9.7 on high bar during the team finals, helping NU set a national scoring record (287.80) that still stands.

On the US. National Team: Suter is in his second year as a member of the senior national team. He participated in the World Championship Trials this past October but withdrew because of neck spasms. Suter competed in the 1985 World University Games in Kobe, Japan, and finished 313t in the allaround. He also competed in the 1985 National Sports Festival and led the West squad to the team gold medal while finishing sixth in the all-around.

At South Lakes High: Suter captured the Virginia high school all-around title for three straight years and led his team to the state title as a senior. He was a classmate of Georgetown basketball guard Michael Jackson.

Personal: Suter was born May 23, 1964, in Philadelphia, Pa. He is the son of Betty Lou Suter and has one brother, Richard, 18. He is a business administration major.
