Honors & Awards

2017 (Junior)
Sanjaya Roy finished his Husker career in 2017, forgoing his senior season to attend graduate school in California. In his final season, Roy played a key role for the Huskers on still rings and occasionally on parallel bars. He appeared eight times on rings, including the postseason. At the NCAA Championships, he helped the Huskers earn a berth to the team finals for the first time since 1999, posting a 13.10. There, NU finished sixth marking its best national finish since 1999. He set a career-high score on still rings, notching 13.80 and tied his personal best on parallel bars with 13.45. He was rewarded for his efforts by his team and coaches at the end-of-the-year banquet, where he earned the Perseverance Award. 

Outside of the gym, Roy continued to excel. He was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2017. He also claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. He was selected to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and earned one of the first-ever Nebraska Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Awards, named after the late Nebraska punter, for his outstanding contributions to the community. Roy earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2017.

2016 (Sophomore)
Roy got his first taste of collegiate gymnastics after appearing for the first time in 2016. The Douglassville, Pa., native competed twice for Nebraska on parallel bars. He notched a career-best score of 13.45 at Penn State on March 11.

Despite not seeing a lot of action for the Huskers in his sophomore season, Roy still made his mark by being an active member in the community and shining in the classroom. He earned Academic-All Big Ten honors for the second consecutive year and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2015-16. Additionally, Roy earned his second first-team CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete award and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2016. He also was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016.

2015 (Freshman)
Roy did not see any action in his first year with the Huskers. He spent the season improving his skills and adjusting to collegiate-level competition.

Before Nebraska
Roy competed under Coach Joe Stallone at Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center located in Allentown, Pa.

As a successful club gymnast, Roy was a three-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier and five-time qualifier to the Region 7 Championships.

At the 2013 Region 7 Championships, Roy tied for the bronze on pommel horse with a score of 13.50. He also tallied a fifth-place finish on rings with a 14.10.

During the 2013 JO National All-Around and Event Finals, Roy finished sixth in the all-around in the men's age 18 division with a 76.25. The Douglassville, Pa., native also earned seventh-place finishes on floor and pommel horse, earning scores of 13.75 and 12.30, respectively.

Roy attended George School in Newtown, Pa., and graduated in 2013.

Personal
The son of Michael and Janet Roy, Sanjaya was born on July 28, 1994, in Lancaster, Calif. He has one brother, Michael and one sister, Nefertiti. Sanjaya graduated in May 2017 with a degree in psychology. He was a six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
