Outlook: After suffering through seveml nagging injuries last season, including shoulder soreness, Grant Clinton underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason, before having arthroscopic surgery on his right linemen Jam 10. Once halthy, the Texas native will be heavily relied to contribute in five events. Clinton competed on every event but pommel horse last season, qualifying for the NCAA individual preliminaries on high bar. As one of two seniors, he will be looked to for leadership.

2000 (Junior): Muscle spasms in his back and shoulder soreness limited Clinton’s contributions throughout the season. He competed six of a possible 10 times and missed nearly the entire month of February's but with a month on the sideline, Clinton’s back and shoulders gradually improved. He produced his best scores of the regular season March 17 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Team Championships, where he scored highs on high bar (9525) and vault (9.2). He tied a career-best on still rings with a score of 9.70 and qualihed for the MPSF still rings final, where he posted a 9.4. With Clinton back in the still rings lineup, NU scored a season-best 38.675 and a season-best 228.22 overall mark at the MPSF Championships. Without Clinton, the Huskers never scored higher than 37.30 on Still rings and often competed with just four gymnasts in that event. Clinton qualified for the NCAA individual preliminaries on high bar and scored a 9.6, but did not advance to the individual finals. 

1999 (Sophomore): Clinton made an immediate impact in the Nebraska lineup in 1999 after transferring from Texas Tech. He competed on live events for the Huskers (all but pommel horse) after joining the team at the start of the second semester, one week before the season. His best event was still rings, where he was ranked 14th nationally (9.621) and had six-straight scores of 9.50 or better. He had a career high of 9.70 at both BYU and at New Mexico. Clinton steadily improved during the season after not competing for three years after high school because of a car accident. He set career highs on floor exercise (9.30) and parallel bars (9.20) at the West Regional and won his only event title on high bar with a 9.875 at New Mexico. He turned in a season-best of 9.45 on vault at the MPSF Championships and was impressive at the NCAA Championships in LincoIn, scoring a team-best 9.725 on the horizontal bar during the team finals. Clinton also posted two career-bests at the NCAAs, a 9.55 on parallel bars and a 9.5 on vault. 
 
Prior: Clinton was out of gymnastics for more than a year following high school after suffering wrist and shoulder injuries in an automobile accident. He competed for Coach Bill Foster at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics, winning Texas state championships at the club level in the all-around in 1989. 1992 and 1993.
Personal: The son of George and Kay Clinton, Grant has an older sister, Courtney. A business administration major, Clinton is a 1996 graduate of Taylor High School. While enrolled at Texas Tech, Clinton coached TTU's club team. He was born on Oct. 5, 1977, in Plano, Texas.
